Loll Designs

With a focus on circular products, Loll Designs creates sustainable outdoor furniture that stands up to any climate.

Sheets of HDPE are turned into Loll’s weather- and fade-resistant outdoor furniture.

Loll Designs is a leader in eco-friendly outdoor furniture. The company was founded by skateboard park designers who crafted ramps out of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for its durability and weather-resistance. Rather than letting scraps of HDPE sheeting go to waste, the crew wanted to reuse it and came to a simple realization: what makes sense for skate parks makes sense for outdoor furniture. To this day, all Loll furniture is crafted from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) made partially from recycled plastics like milk jugs and shampoo bottles.

Room & Board has worked closely with Loll since 2007 with the introduction of Emmet, the original modern Adirondack chair. A longtime customer favorite, Emmet was designed in partnership with and is crafted exclusively for us by Loll. “From the beginning it was my impression that this was going to be a partnership,” noted Loll founder Greg Benson early in the collaboration. “As a company striving for unique designs and a truly green and quality product, it was evident that Room & Board shared those same values.”

Precision cutting ensures every piece fits together perfectly and minimizes waste.

Located in Duluth, Minnesota, Loll aims to play a role in a circular economy where plastics will be recycled continuously, thereby reducing waste. Loll strives to use as much of their raw materials as possible to minimize the amount of waste produced. Of that waste, more than 88% is recycled. And once a piece of Loll furniture has enjoyed a long life, the HDPE plastic, aluminum inserts and stainless steel fasteners—that’s the whole chair—can all be recycled at an industrial facility or through Loll’s Material Reutilization Program.

In addition, Loll has attained a Cradle to Cradle Certified BRONZE™ rating for a majority of their product line, including our Emmet collection. This means the materials in the products have undergone a complete review of their human and environmental health characteristics and have been deemed acceptable or preferable. Cradle to Cradle certification underscores Loll’s commitment to the environment and product transparency.

Minnesota craftspeople make every piece of our Loll collection.

Loll staffers take advantage of the year-round outdoor activities available in Duluth, so it’s no surprise that protecting the natural environment is a focus for the company. Loll is a member of 1% for the Planet, a global movement of companies donating to environmental organizations worldwide. The company also partners with efforts in their local community through volunteer hours and donations, including an annual creek clean-up event.
