Room & Board’s second New York City showroom—our largest furniture store in Manhattan —opened with much excitement on December 13.
Located in Chelsea, the 48,000-square-foot showroom features our entire collection of modern furniture and accessories on three floors. The building was most recently home to Barney’s New York CO-OP and multiple office and commercial tenants.
We kicked off the weekend Thursday night with an employee party. New Jersey Delivery Center staff members were bused in to join staff from the SoHo and Chelsea stores for an evening of celebration. Nearly 200 staff members and guests enjoyed light bites, beer and wine while recognizing their hard work.
National media stopped by on Thursday and Friday for personal tours of the space. This included editors from Architectural Digest, Better Homes & Gardens, Elle Décor, HGTV Magazine, InStyle, The New York Post, The New York Times and Apartment Therapy.
We hosted a special preview for customers on Friday night. The evening included passed hors d’oeuvres and refreshments as well as local Latin jazz music led by Anthony Almonte. The bongos, drums, bass and keyboard added to the great energy in the store.
Two $5,000 gift cards were given away over the weekend—one through a paper drawing and one on social media, which encouraged shoppers to snap a selfie with their favorite piece of modern furniture. David Oh of Long Island City won the drawing and Greg Goodwin of New York uploaded the winning selfie on Instagram using the #roomandboardchelsea hashtag.
Our SoHo store will temporarily be closed for remodeling starting January 19 and reopening February 7 with a new shopping experience. The remodeled showroom will feature our accessories and select furniture items. The smaller space and edited displays will highlight the details and stories behind our products.
Thanks to all who helped us celebrate the opening of our new showroom. We invite you to stop by next time you find yourself in the Big Apple!
