Sustainability is a cornerstone of Room & Board’s business. Our designs are made using wood, steel, cotton, granite—natural materials that stand the test of time. There’s cause to celebrate when sustainability naturally intersects with great product design. It gets even better when there is a hidden story to tell that reveals a touch of history and character. To celebrate Earth Day and our continued commitment to sustainability, we’ve rounded up our favorite eco-friendly products.
Our limited edition outdoor Mesa dining table is one solid example. Handcrafted in Appleton, Wisconsin, by Urban Evolutions, it’s made of redwood that is salvaged from the Hollister region, just north of the Monterey Peninsula in California. The wood comes from brining tanks used by the Lindsay Olive Company in the 1920s. Today, we’ve reclaimed this beautiful wood to create one-of-a-kind modern outdoor tables that will gracefully patina as they age and be enjoyed for many years to come.
We love to find new ways to use materials that otherwise would end up in a landfill. In this case, what goes around (and around), comes around. Recycled bicycle tubes get new life in our Cyclo rug. The tubes are combined with polypropylene fibers, so Cyclo is durable enough to use as an outdoor rug or in a busy entryway.
