Farmers markets, food trucks and chef-driven pop-up dinners are all the rage these days. With an influx of locally made, handcrafted fare, commercial kitchens are becoming increasingly important for local food entrepreneurs to make, move and sell their products.
Room & Board Washington, D.C. is proud to partner with Union Kitchen, a commercial kitchen space that supports local businesses by offering assistance at every stage of the entrepreneurial journey. The food incubator is home to approximately 75 local vendors, with a wide range of foods from chocolate and ice cream to specialty dog bones and sauerkraut. As a pioneering model for other kitchens throughout the U.S., the organization is often the subject of media attention both locally and nationally.
Union Kitchen has been operating out of a 7,000-square-foot facility for the past several years and has recently expanded to a 16,000-square-foot facility in the Ivy City neighborhood of northeast DC. This new space allows for private and public events to showcase the site, its members and their products.
Room & Board was excited for the opportunity to furnish a lounge (as seen below) at the building’s entrance. The modern seating area features our Andre sofa, Chilton cocktail table, Lola chairs, Lane floor lamp and a variety of modern accessories.
More recently, our Washington, D.C. showroom hosted a market-style open house featuring more than a dozen food and beverage members of Union Kitchen. Guests enjoyed light bites and cocktails as they sampled and discovered yummy holiday gifts for everyone on their list.
