A blog on modern living

One of the best times to refresh your home is right before hosting guests for the holidays. With December upon us, we connected with Room & Board Visual Associate David Staten who has been helping our customers create homes they love for more than 18 years in our downtown Chicago showroom. With a natural knack for making any space stylish and comfortable, it’s no surprise his own home was featured in the Chicago Tribune last year. So how does David get his home guest-ready? By focusing on his primary goal: making his guests feel taken away and relaxed.

Here are some of his favorite tips and tricks:

  • Create a guest room retreat that is comfortable and luxurious. Freshen up your space with new soft sheets, cozy blankets and a warm down comforter and duvet cover.
  • A great artisan bud vase with fresh flowers on the bedside table is a inexpensive way to make guests feel welcome.
  • Lighting warms up a room. Add a handcrafted lamp on the bedside table. There’s nothing like crawling into a comfortable bed and finishing that book during the holidays.
  • A low and lean floral or fruit arrangements down the center of the table lets you see your guests and talk across the table. Our centerpiece trays works well because they still provide enough room for place settings and stemware.
