    I'll Bet It's Nice

Customer comments about Mackintosh California King High Footboard Bed:

I ordered this piece almost 2 months ago. After waiting and waiting the the bed finally arrived. The delivery guys got it set up but told me that the slats were the wrong size (so they were going to have customer service send me new ones). They were about to hop in their truck and leave when I noticed that the bed seemed crooked. Turns out the headboard and footboard were not even the same size (width)—which is why the slats wouldn't fit. Luckily I caught it because the delivery/assembly guys were oblivious to the fact. They took the bed down and returned it. So, here I sit, waiting patently for the correct bed to arrive, but feel quite frustrated by the poor communication from R&B. I'll bet it's a really nice piece, but not sure if it's really worth such a ridiculously long wait/the hassle.

We purchased this bed 18 years ago when we built our house. It is as rock solid as the day it was delivered. No wobbles, squeaks, nothing. Just know this bed weighs a LOT so put it where it will stay as moving it intact is difficult.

I love this bed. My home a 1920s Dutch colonial, but I have fairly contemporary minimalist style. This bed foots the bill perfectly for a transitional home that doesn't was to be overly modern, and the architecture is a great classic look. It could work in any home. It's also well built. Using the platform and a foam latex mattress it works well, although I could see where making the bed could be a problem without the platform to raise the mattress up a couple inches.

The bed is gorgeous and very sturdy, but the side rails have rough edges. If you sit up and slide out of bed you will scrape the undersides of your thighs. These edges need to be rounded or polished in some way. Even though, I still love the style and look of this bed and most of all it's sturdiness.

I've had this bed over 10 years. It looks as good today as the day it was delivered - and it's traveled with me cross-country! The design is a great marriage of arts and crafts style and contemporary materials. It is solid and sturdy without appearing bulky.

I added 3/4 inch plywood over the slats to provide solid support to my mattress.

If there was one thing I would change about the bed, it would be, well, nothing!!!

This is a great bed! It is incredibly sturdy and well-made. It is very simple to assemble. I initially got this bed because I was living in an apartment with little storage space and the height of the bed allowed me to store things under it. Now, even though I do not need the storage space, it is nice to be able to vacuum under the bed. My only complaint is that the foot board is right at hip height, so if you are not careful, you can run right into it. I ordered a mattress that is a little oversized and it fits the bed perfectly. I am purchasing another bed from R&B (steel another design) for the guest bedroom.

The "standard" bed has 11" of clearance under it. I am assuming the headboard is still 45" off the ground? So, if I get the "standard" I will have a greater distance between the top of the matress and the top of the headboard, correct? I am considering the king - standard.

With our Mackintosh King Standrard High Footboard Bed, the bottom of your mattress would sit at 12” off the ground. The hight of the headboard, measured from the ground up, for the Standard style is 45” and 49” for the Tall style.

The Mackintosh bed is composed of a headboard, footboard, 2 side rails and the steel slats that support the mattress. Our Mackintosh Bed is constructed the same as our Parsons Bed. Follow the link below to view the bed frame with out a mattress, for a better impression of the construction. The color of our natural steel is best described as a dark charcoal, and will have some color flashings at the weld points. The lacquer finish is light, almost matt.

It is possible to purchase a Mackintosh Twin High Footboard Bed with two footboards. The order would need to be processed through one of our store locations or by calling Shop from Home at 800-301-9720.

A box spring can be used; however our beds are designed for the height of a mattress only, so the overall height with a box spring will be quite high. For a visual reference, the Room & Board mattresses shown in our room images are all 11-13" in height.

If I put risers underneath the feet at the head of the bed, to minimize sinus and snoring issues as well as GERD, will that affect the stability of the bed?

The Mackintosh is made from natural steel and incredibly solid, durable and doesn't torque with use but it would be up to you to determine if the risers would provide a firm, solid surface for the bed to rest upon.

We are not able to add casters to our beds. You might try furniture glide discs which can help with ease of moving on carpeted areas.
