The side rails are made of steel and do not match the frame. In addition, these rails come up above where the mattress sits and make it difficult to tuck in sheets.

Customer comments about Portica King Canopy Bed:

This bed has been wonderful over the last 3 years of use. It has held up well in our home with one child, 2 dogs and a cat all of whom love sleeping in the bed with us.
The only complaint I have is that the headboard is a little TOO minimal. We use at least 2 pillows since one of them always sinks into the gap. Note to folks planning families out there... This also makes it tough to sit up and nurse in bed comfortably.

Also, after our last move, my husband reassembled it, and it went together without a hitch. We weren't sure since the awesome delivery folks put it together the first time, but our worry was unfounded!

Service and delivery comments:

The delivery guys were half the reason we went back to Room and Board to furnish our new living room. They were fantastically helpful, tidy, accommodating and fast!

Love it

Customer comments about Portica Queen Canopy Bed:

First off, I love this bed more than any other piece of furniture that I own. It beautiful and almost perfectly constructed. It goes with a lot of different styled night stands but I did want one that matched exactly. I can customize a regular portica end table to accomplish this or even the c-table but they both have no shelves or storage. This is kind of important for a nightstand. I have had this bed for a little over a year and I am still searching or the perfect end table that's not wood( like advertised in catalogue with the bed). Also, despite one another reviewer said this bed is really tall for a shorter person. I am 5'1 and have to do a small leap to get on it. When I was pregnant I actually had to use a footstool half way through my pregnancy. Last but not least my main complaint is that in the short time I have had it, the side rails, which by the way are constructed of raw steel and are visible and do not match the brushed steel, are beginning to show numerous not small rust spots. I live in Florida so perhaps it's a water in the air thing? But for almost $2000 with tax and ship I don't think it should rust. All that being said I love my bed!

Customer comments about Portica Queen Canopy Bed:

Great looking bed but when they delivered it wasn't high enough! I have fairly high ceilings (nothing too abnormal though!) and the bed looked totally out of proportion and far too short relative to the ceiling height. VERY disappointed as I love the style. Moved it to my guest house where the ceilings are lower but it still looked wrong and too short. Boo hoo!

We bought this bed for our master in the King size. It is the perfect bed for our space. I love that it will fit in with most styles of living, even when we move. It is sturdy, great quality, and cleans with a duster. Just make sure you have standard door sizes and no tight corners, because the end pieces are quite large. Buy it! You won't be disappointed.

Amazing perfect bed, among the most loved and commented-on pieces of furniture in our house.

The only "issue" I could find is that the sides do not look as the rest of the bed. They are made of steel and have a different color. Things might have changed in the meantime, but I personally was pretty disappointed as it was not mentioned anywhere (it said 100% SS). If you plan on tucking your cover neatly under the mattress, it will show. This "issues" is just FYI, I would but the same bed in a heartbeat.

          Overall, great!

Fabulous looking bed with extremely solid feel. The only downside is that you can't really lean against the "headboard" to read. If you have the head of the bed against a wall, however, you can rectify that with a sufficient number of well-placed pillows.

Is the under bed height of (11" standard), and (15" tall) measured from the Side Rails, or the Bed Slats under the Bed?

Also, are the Side Rails higher than the Bed Slats?

The underbed clearance is the open space under the side rails. The platform slats set on the side rails, raising the height where your mattress would set by 1½”.

Our Portica Canopy Beds use a brushed stainless steel. You may want to check with your Tempur-Pedic retailer, I believe their mattresses require full coverage on the underside. In which case, may purchase our platform boards for use over the slatted platform of the Portica Canopy Bed.

Yes, the side rails on the Portica Canopy bed are a natural steel and shown in the first and last images on this page. Depending on your bedding, they may be somewhat visible. The natural steel rails are used to allow us to offer the best price as stainless steel is a more expensive material.

                  A:

You have two profile options on our steel beds. The standard puts the side rails and mattress at 11" from the floor and the tall at 15" from the floor. Add the thickness of your mattress to this for the finished overall height of your bed.
A side table or nightstand works well when it is slightly higher than the mattress; say an inch or two.

The Portica is the collection we offer in stainless steel. In addition, the steel tubing is just a bit thinner profile than that of the steel on the Architecture bed which is available in natural steel only. King size is available for both.
