Corbett table size guidelines

Width Depth Height
Corbett 60-104" 30-48" 28-32"
Return to Designing

General Tips

  • When calculating the measurements for your custom table, make sure to consider any doorway, stairs or hallways your table may need to maneuver through
  • All overall height measurements include the top

Dining Tables

  • The standard recommended height for a dining table is 29"
  • The general rule of thumb is to allow for 24 inches per person around your table
  • Allow for space so chairs can be easily pulled out from the edge of the table. Between 18-24 inches is the norm, though traffic paths in your room may require even more space
  • The placement of the legs may affect chair placement, giving you more or less room along a side
  • The width and height of your dining chairs–and if your chairs have arms–may affect how many fit around the table and how far they can be pushed in when not in use

Counters

  • The standard recommended height for a counter table is 36" and 42" for a bar table
  • Choose a height that works not only for standing tasks, but for any seating you may require: generally, counter stools have a 24-inch to 26-inch seat height, while bar stools have a 31-inch seat height

Accent Tables

  • The standard recommended height for an end table is 22" - 30"
  • The standard recommended height for a cocktail table is 13" - 17"
  • Remember to allow for at least 18 inches between the cocktail table and sofa for easy traffic flow
  • End tables should be at or below the arm height of sofas and chairs to avoid awkward reaching
  • Console tables placed behind a sofa should be at or just below the height of the back of the sofa

Standard Recommended Types

Type Average height
End Tables 22" - 30"
Cocktail Tables 13" - 17"
Dining/Office 29"
Counter 36"
Bar Height 42"

Customer comments about Corbett 82x36 Table:

We brought this table several years ago- I believe it is in a cherry finish, although that no longer seems to be available. I love the minimalist design. It is very well constructed and solid. Scratches? We haven't had any problem but, hey, it's made out of wood and not stone. Treat it kindly. Although the dimensions are ample, seating three on each side can be done, but would be less than optimal because of the table leg placement. Overall, we are very happy with our choice.

Customer comments about Corbett 82x36 Table:

We bought this dining table about 1.5 years ago. It looks nice, but I am disappointed by its durability, and we use it infrequently. We paired this table with Sabrina chairs which go well together. But the table gets scratches on it very easily which I feel is unaccesptable, considering that this was not an inexpensive piece of furniture.

Customer comments about Corbett 82x36 Table:

After 3 deliveries trying to get a table that wasn't damaged on top, we like it very much. The finish is a nice soft gray which I love, and the style simple and modern. Two of the tables that came had scratches or gouges on them, so I am a little worried about the durability. Time will tell. RB was very helpful in fixing the issues, so I'm sure they will stand behind their product if anything should arrise. Delivery ppl were so awesome, I was amazed that all 3 times I had polite and helpful drivers. Very impressed! My only suggestion would be to inspect the tables right BEFORE delivery, as this became a lengthy process.

Customer comments about Corbett 82x36 Table:

The table is exactly what I expected and I think that is great. The walnut finish is beautiful. Before I subject the table to serious use, I will need to coat it with something to help preserve it as it shows wear. I think that could be a cool feature in a more casual room, but the way I have it now, I want it to stay as close to perfect as possible. I do not consider this a negative as I was well aware that the table is real untreated wood - that's why I wanted it.

                  A:

The Corbett tables have a lacquer finish to protect and seal the wood. We recommend dry dusting. For persistent spots, gently clean with a soft cloth and a solution of water and mild detergent and wipe dry. Would a custom sized Corbett table accommodate 10 people for a family, not formal, dinner? If so, what dimensions would you recommend? My dining area is large.

                  A:

The stocked Corbett Extension table in the 96”x36” size seats 8 people closed, and 10 when extended to 114”. We would recommend about 20” per person at the table, so to seat 5 people on each side you would want a minimum of 100” in length.

The Corbett Dining bench would be a great compliment to this table. Keep in mind, the space between the legs is 48". If you were needing to push the bench in all the way, you may consider a custom by-the-inch Andover bench.

Our Corbett collection is protected with a lacquer finish. We do still recommend using care to keep your top in great condition; wiping spills immediately and using coasters and place mats.
