Nice table, with a significant caveat

    By __nsapi302_table

    from Sunnyvale, CA

Customer comments about Chilton 72w Walnut Dining Table with Walnut Base:

This is a nice looking table. In person, the finish looks more like what you'd expect walnut to look like: less warm and less glossy than the online photos.

Unfortunately, I'm dissatisfied with my purchase. It wasn't obvious from the online photo that one of knot holes had been filled with resin. The resin is translucent, and since the knot hole goes all the way through the table top, the resin seems to glow when light hits it. It's a strange contrast to the rest of the table, and it's definitely not the look I was going for.

If at all possible, try to see your table in person before purchasing. If you do purchase online, pay extra attention to any amber-coloured knot holes. You probably don't want one.

Customer comments about Chilton 72w Walnut Dining Table with Natural Steel Base:

The table has a beautiful finish and I've received lots of compliments on it. I have to say I don't care for the wrap around base - I'd have preferred legs.

Important to note: I bought Marie chairs for this table, and they're just a bit too wide (if I hadn't ordered custom upholstery I'd exchange them). They make the table seem cramped and the chairs on the end won't fit inside the base. Buy one of the narrower chairs.

This table is worth every penny and we've received many compliments so far. We love how clean and close to nature it looks - and it's a perfect size for our apartment (narrow and long). Compared to other finished rectangular dining tables, every chilton table unique because of the live edges, different wood grains and color so if you are looking for something more than an average rectangular table, or something of a centerpiece then this is it! We paired it with the black jake chairs and looks awesome.

Customer comments about Chilton Walnut Dining Table with Natural Steel Base:

The table is beautiful and pictures are true to form. I picked out the exact table top that I wanted, purchased it and it arrived at my door - character in the grain and color of wood is absolutely stunning. And my table is one of a kind!

Only cons - because the wood is textured/natural, any scratches/burns/stains will show and cannot be fixed easily.

        • Q:

Some of the tabletops have obvious knots or holes in them. One reviewer posted an image showing their tabletop had a hole in the wood that is filled in, possibly with resin. I am wondering how to tell from the pictures if a certain top has a "hole" in it.

            A:

Every knot or hole on a Chilton table is filled with clear resin. By clicking twice on the image of the specific Chilton table you want, you are able to zoom in and explore the top. If you see a knot or hole, there is already going to be clear resin in it and will appear in your home as it does on the website.

Above the picture it states there'd are 21 different sizes, but the dimensions only show the one. Can you order in different dimensions. Also, I have tried for 3 days to call the customer service number and can't get through.

            A:

Even though we say that there are multiple “sizes”, we are indicating how many individual tables are shown. The images for the Chilton collection depict each of the one-of-a-kind tables on that page.

Can you measure this particular table for the width?
Asked on 8/12/2013 by Wood table fan from Lenexa, KS

          1 answer

          • DESIGN ASSOCIATE

            A:

We use term "width" to describe the 84-inch measurement. The depth of each individual table is listed in the Details & Dimensions on the left side of the product page. The range listed is for each specific table.

          Q:

Can you comfortably seat 8 people at this table? (3 on each side + 1 at each end)

It seems like the metal base would interfere with having 3 chairs on the long side of the table.

          Thanks.
