They do not seal the marble at all before delivery. This is the easiest staining marble table my family has owned. Unless you want to never use it or live with a plastic cover over it, this is not a useful table.

We chose the beige quartz top and we love it. Wipes clean, doesn't scratch or stain. Always looks great and will last forever. That is great since I have 3 small boys eating on it all day long. The table is sturdy and solid. Love the charcoal stain on the table legs. Just beautiful.

Customer comments about Linden 72x36 Table:

I had the same experience with the marble top. Why would Room and Board not seal this table? I had read the other reviewers and promptly sealed it after I saw dark water rings forming with my water glass. Next, the dull marks started with any kind of fruit or other acid touching the surface. Fortunately, the woman who cleans my house decided to spray it with some kind of chemical that left dull pock marks all over the table. This prompted me to call my local "marble guy" who saved the day. He actually took off the shiny surface and left me with a honed surface. The honed finish is nicer and more natural looking. Food can spill on it without causing dull marks and it is much more resilient. He also sealed it and confirmed need to seal all marble. It cost about $300, which was annoying as I had spent a lot on the table, but well worth it after the initial investment. If you want to keep the table with less headaches, I highly recommend the honed finish.

              Marble not sealed!

Customer comments about Linden 72x36 Table:

Although I love the legs and size of this table, I would NEVER purchase the marble top again. The care instructions said to wipe it dry every time, but that is nearly impossible to do in a kitchen. I tried my best for the first few days, and my best was not enough. Now my table top is COVERED with spots that cannot be removed. Perhaps I could have sealed it myself and not had the issue, but it's clearly too late to do that now. This was not an inexpensive table top. It's crazy to me that it is sold to consumers like this without the instruction to seal it before using. And it should come sealed anyway!

Customer comments about Linden 72x36 Table:

The marble top table was beautiful when delivered, but I started to notice some major flaws. First, the walnut legs are made from several pieces of wood glued together, so there are streaks of dark and light color due to how the paint attached (not at all like natural marbling of wood). R&B is going to do a one-time replacement, but there are no guarantees that the next one will be better.

More egregious is the fact that the marble did NOT come sealed. I did not know this and noticed that after about 5 days, water marks had penetrated into the stone and had gone from shiny polished to dull matte.

Because of the water marks, I started to look at the stone more carefully, and saw small dints in the stone throughout. Customer care said these are "natural qualities of the stone."

All in all, R&B is going to replace the whole table and I now know to seal the table before using it, but I really wish they had done it for me, or at least told me in advance. The table is very nice - just don't know if I would have bought otherwise.

We got this beautiful table with the white quartz top and dark walnut base for our breakfast nook. We love the look of it and the durability of the quartz top. It's also very easy to clean. I haven't let stains like coffee rings or red wine rings linger very long because I don't want to chance it, but I believe it doesn't stain the way marble would. The quality of the entire piece (wooden base and stone top) is great as is typical of all Room and Board products. We use it mostly to eat and for working on our laptops, but my toddler uses it for many arts and crafts activities. I haven't used it yet for baking, but I'm sure it'd be great to use to roll out dough right on the quartz top as long as it was cleaned properly before and after. I'm certainly planning to use it in this way. We couldn't be happier with this purchase. It's a bit pricey, but you've go to pay for good quality and this was definitely worth it!

                            Q:

Hello - Can 3 thatcher side chairs fit side-by side along one side of the Linden 72x36 table? I know specs say it fits 8, but curious if it would fit 8 Thatcher chairs since they seem to be wider at the top.

The space between the table base legs on the Linden 72x36 dining table is 66". The Thatcher chairs are 22" wide. Three Thatcher chairs would just fit.

                            Hi,

I am interested in the white venatino marble top linden table. Is the marble a solid piece of marble? Also, do you sella marble sealing product or have a brand you could recommend?

                            Thank you.

                              A:

All the stone tops available on the Linden collection, in both the 72x36 and 60x36 sizes, are one solid piece.

You may apply an over-the-counter penetrating sealant, which may provide your marble surface with a small amount of protection, but you'll still need to act quickly to clean spills. We do not have a specific brand we recommend, however you should purchase the sealer from a reputable stone/tile fabricator, rather than a big box store. Petroleum based sealers are superior to water based.

How thick is the marble table top? The images of the product in a room setting have much thicker marble tops than the stock image of the product.

Our stone tops are 1" thick except for some small accent tables that are 3/4" thick. The images we show of our furniture in room settings are taken with the products we sell.

The stone tops will be one piece up to 72" long and 36" wide so yes, the 60" top will be one piece.

We currently do not have a custom by-the-inch option for the Linden collection, just the table size options available online.
