Frames

Made to the same high standards as all of our furniture, each one of our upholstery frames is built to last.

Kiln-dried, engineered hardwood

We use kiln-dried, engineered hardwood in all of our upholstery frames. Often used for structural beams, engineered hardwood is made by pressing thin layers of solid wood together. Kiln-drying removes moisture, minimizing seasonal expansion and contraction. This stable hardwood material resists warping and cracking for lasting durability.

Reinforced joinery

We reinforce every joint in our frames for added stability. Precision-cut parts interlock like puzzle pieces and are reinforced with eco-friendly glues, screws or staples and corner blocks. Reinforced joinery ensures your seating holds together, even with years of frequent use.

Suspension

Dual flexolator

A Dual Flexolator suspension consists of a tempered steel grid attached to the frame with small springs. Each seat has its own independent steel grid, providing undisturbed comfort for each person on the sofa.

Customer comments about Hayes 124x124" Three-Piece Sectional:

I hate this couch so terribly much. We love the style and design but the quality of the liners is terrible. The down feathers poke through the fabric at an unprecedented rate and stab you every time you sit down. There are feathers all over the place and it happens with every cushion and pillow. We called Room and Board right away and they replaced the cushions and pillows but it hasn't fixed the problem, the same problem persists.

Customer comments about Hayes 143x90" Two-Piece Sectional with Right-Back Angled Sofa:

Love the look, size and comfort but I am not happy at all with quality. It looks as if someone killed a chicken in my living room. Feathers everywhere all the time. I gave it time thinking it would stop but it has not. Also my angled cushion has never fit right, it has a big gap and the cushion slides off and you end up sitting in a crevice. I contacted R&B right away sent pictures but have not had my issues addressed. I sent pictures of the concerns and that's where it ends. If you like cleaning up feathers daily this sofa is for you!

Bad Fabric

Pros

    Cons

    • Uncomfortable fabric

    Best Uses

    • Informal

Customer comments about Hayes 124x124" Three-Piece Sectional:

The stock fabric is cheap and porous, and as a result, the feathers leak out at an unacceptable rate. It would be comfortable couch, if I didn't have multiple sharp feathers poking me every time I lay down. This is not a cheap couch yet behaves as such. I have other down couches and do not have this same issue because the fabric is better quality. I don't recommend this couch with the stock fabric.

    Service and delivery comments:

Customer service and delivery from Room and Board is always top notch!

Customer comments about Hayes 143x90" Two-Piece Sectional with Left-Back Angled Sofa:

Be prepared to fluff all of the cushions and pillows at least weekly with daily use. Down is more comfortable than a synthetic filling, but must be fluffed to keep it's shape. I put the pillows two-at-a-time in my dryer on the "air fluff" (no heat) setting for 5 minutes and they come out full and plump. The seat cushions should be bounced on the floor on each edge to move the down back to the center of the cushions. This might take two people as the seat cushions are pretty heavy. The back cushions just need an upside down shaking as the down tends to settle downward in the back cushions.

We've comfortably seated seven on this sectional at one time. You can sit in many places and in many positions and it is very important that you vary where and how you sit on this sectional. If you sit in the same spot every time, the cushions will show the wear. Not a problem though, because there are so many comfortable ways to enjoy this sectional.

Because of seams and folds in the fabric along the edges underneath the sectional, most of the legs will probably not be perpendicular to the floor upon delivery. There are ten legs total on this sectional. Each 5" tall. Of the ten on our unit, eight legs were off in at least one direction by about 1/4" at the base of the leg, which was noticable to me. It was an easy fix, and R&B did a great job sending out a tech who added shims (little washers) at all the right places to square up the legs.

Finally, feathers. They will poke through the fabric and you will be pulling them out frequently. Nonetheless, the comfort of down far surpasses this minor inconvience in my opinion.

Despite a few problems, I would still highly recommend this product because of the overall quality, versatility and style. We get a lot of comments from guests that the couch is "really comfortable" and "looks fantastic." The fabric is really soft. A round coffee table fits nicely with this piece, so do "C" tables.

I have this sectional. While I love the design I do not love the odor.. I've called the company and am told it is coming from the core material.. I don't know if I can live with the smell. I have noticed the chaise part of sectional has worn out more than the rest too and we make an effort to not use that side anymore than the other to have even wear.

There is no denying the comfort of this piece. There is little I love more than curling up on this couch with the family. However the clean lines that made this couch the happy medium between my desire for a sleek look and my husbands for a comfort have faded.

We have had the couch for three years, I fluff it regularly, and have it steamed annually, it has permanent grooves and while still a great piece shows it wear in lost of shape. Know that it will change with wear.

Customer comments about Hayes 143x90" Two-Piece Sectional with Right-Back Angled Sofa:

We have this couch in our family room. It's lovely and deep seated, perfect for snuggling with kids, reading and watching TV. The material is soft and seems to wear well. We have two problems with it though. First, the odor. We are not sure if it is the stuffing or the materials. It smells like a heavy musty, almost stable-like (hay) smell, and It's still quite strong and though received the couch over a month ago. Second, the fill is a problem for me. I have allergies. I knew I had a problem with feather pillows when I sleep, but I didn't know I would feel the feathers in the sofa itself. I do. You see a few pop out of the fabric and they are itchy, and make me sneeze

Overall, it's a beautiful couch. I just wish it came with a foam pillow option!

Customer comments about Hayes 143x90" Two-Piece Sectional with Right-Back Angled Sofa:

I cannot tell you how often my husband and I both remark about how this is the "best couch ever." I purchased the stock gray fabric. It is incredibly comfortable and the fabric holds up well. With the chaise piece, it's like having a bed in your living room. It also looks great. A contemporary piece with comfort! The only downside is the chaise cushion does tend to sag in the middle after some use. But, a minor complaint in an otherwise phenomenal sofa.

It has been a little over a year since we got the sectional and we couldn't be happier. The material has gotten softer and surprisingly the couchions still hold their shape. We love to entertain and this sectional can sit 5/6 people comfortably. It is a lot bigger than you think... Extremely happy with our purchase.

Customer comments about Hayes 124x124" Three-Piece Sectional:

I looked at this sofa in the store three times before purchase. I liked the look and especially the color graphite. The dimensions and shape also fit the space I have perfectly - I have the L shaped sectional. I read other reviews that the cushions don't hold their shape once sat on. It is true, but not to a terrible degree. The fabric seems to stain easily. It was scuffed badly in one small spot during shipping. They sent a company to steam it out. It worked. The stains came out by rubbing with water too. Done by the professional.

I also ordered the ottoman. It takes additional time to receive. Like a month and they charge additional shipping for it.

Overall I like the sofa a lot, but I don't love it. It's big and a little bulky looking. It is comfortable, but in a solid way. Not in a soft puffy way.

I have quite a number of items from Room & Board. I like the quality a lot. It's difficult to find that, price and style. They are also very customer friendly.
