Part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, these sculptural pendant lamps are designed by George Nelson. Instant icons of mid-century modernism when introduced in 1947, they are constructed of a steel wire frame and covered with translucent plastic, emitting a soft, even light.

  • Q:

Are any of the Nelson pendant lamps task worthy? My wife and I really love the design but she has concerns about functionality and practicality. It doesn't have to be laboratory bright but enough to do homework without straining your eyes.

The pendant is designed to use up to 150W max bulb. At the base of the pendant, there is opening. Used over a table, with maximum wattage and hung so that is about 36 inches from the table top, it would provide an adequate amount of light for reading or writing, but there could be different opinions on this.
