Customer comments about Woodwind 72h 32x12 Bookcase:

This is a great bookcase and it matches the other ones from the same collection, which I have acquired over recent years. I like the classic design and clean lines, but at the same time the rich color of the cherry wood gives it a classic elegance. Another plus is that it can be used pretty much anywhere in the house (living room, office, even bedroom) so we would be able to repurpose it if/when we move.

Customer comments about Woodwind 72h 20x12 Bookcase:

I needed a narrow book case in a dining area in my kitchen to hold a small collection of cook books and this piece fits the bill perfectly. Sturdy, very well made. Shelves adjust very easily and levels just as easily.

Customer comments about Woodwind 72h 32x17 Bookcase:

Our architect designed a niche for wall of custom bookcases in home office when we built our house. Running out of budget, I scrapped the custom because I had discovered Woodwind. In my niche I have 4 bookcases side by side. They fill the space beautifully at a fraction of the cost of custom.
I have natural cherry, which deepens over time. It just keeps getting more beautiful.

The delivery guys were awesome. They were very professional. They knew about the product, as well and I asked them about another product that I have from Room and Board in my sons bedroom and they were able to answer my questions. The bookshelves we just bought are great and I think we are going to buy one more.

                  Service and delivery comments:

The delivery took longer than I expected. The dates that they could deliver to my city were limited and we missed the first cycle andhad to wait two additional weeks. There must be a better way to do this.

Customer comments about Woodwind 72h 32x17 Bookcase:

We bought three 72" shelves in cherry for our living room, one with doors. While the shelves are perfectly adequate functionally, they are rather poorly finished. First, the underside of the top, which is clearly visible to anyone less than about 6'6" tall, is veneered but unfinished. Second, there are small gaps at the joints. Third, there appears to be no attempt to match the veneer, even within the same piece. While I don't expect book-matched doors, I do expect them to be approximately the same shade. Likewise, I expect some, but not huge, variation in the grain and finish of the shelves. These pieces are almost entirely veneered composite wood. That's fine, except that, for the price, and especially since they are marketed as pieces that should fit tightly together for a "built-in look," they should be fitted and finished better than they are. Finally, because of their mediocre fit, it's necessary to make a lot of adjustments to the feet to get them to stand reasonably together. But their design makes adjusting the tiny feet incredibly difficult.
Again, the bookcases are fine, but I wouldn't buy them again. I would probably choose a different line (the pieces we have from the Copenhagen line are far superior) or shop elsewhere for the same quality at a lower price.

Customer comments about Woodwind 72h 32x17 Bookcase:

Handsome-looking piece with ample storage for such a small footprint (we ordered a wide walnut bookshelf with cabinets below). Unfortunately, the walnut veneer is VERY thin -- about the thickness of a sheet of paper. Bumps and scratches easily reveal the MDF below the veneer -- so instead of feeling like our money was spent on a piece of furniture for the ages, we feel we got something that will need to be handled with kid gloves. Chose R&B b/c we wanted to buy American, but disappointed that the quality is little different from what's available elsewhere.

However, we do have the Woodwind Open Bookcase collection that is designed to float in a room. The top of the unit, the edge of the case, the front edge of every shelf and any doors are solid wood. The side panels of the unit and shelves are wood veneer over mdf. The back interior panel is veneer and the exterior back is unfinished.

                    Q:

Does "high-quality wood veneers" mean "wood veneer" on particle boards (like MDF)?
Asked on 7/3/2013 by George from Chicago

                    1 answer

                    • DESIGN ASSOCIATE

                      A:

Veneer refers to the thin slices of wood that are typically adhered onto core panels of particle board or medium-density fiberboard. High quality veneers are premium slices of wood consisting of the prime heartwood. Veneers are used on some portions of shelving because they resist the natural expansion and contraction that solid woods have, are less wasteful, and provide greater stability to the frame. Woodwind sides are made of plywood with veneer on both sides. Face frame is 3/4" solid wood. Top of bookcase is 3/4" solid wood. The Shelves are made of MDF with wood veneer on either side.

No, you don't need to attach the Woodwind bookcases to the wall and it doesn't come with connecting hardware. It is always best to put the heavier items on the lower shelves so the bookcase stay balanced and not top heavy.
