Customer comments about Float® 60x30 Desk:

This is a very nice sit / stand desk that seems to work quite well for the intended purpose. However, it's quite expensive and frankly seems a bit over-priced. I purchased this with the sliver base and solid Walnut top in the 48x30 size for my home office. It fits my large 30" monitor, and 2 bookshelf speakers on it just fine, along with my keyboard and trackpad. There is still a bit of room to each side of my keyboard for other items such as a cup of coffee, misc. papers, etc.

The mechanism to raise and lower the desk requires no electricity and seems sturdy and it's also surprisingly easy to use. The negative to not having an electric motor is that it has no presets. So, you have to get used to manually setting it to your preferred height. For standing, this is typically around your bellie button area. With a bit of practice and time, this should become like second nature.

I bought this desk because I wanted a solid Walnut top (which is difficult to find) instead of MDF, and this one from Room & Board was the only one I could find that comes in that configuration. That said, you can probably spend half as much sourcing a set of sit/stand legs and then cutting and finishing a wood top yourself, or hiring a woodworker to make one for you. In my case, I was not willing to go through all that.

As others have mentioned, there are pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the wood top. I think this is because it is also used on other Room & Board pieces. This is a bit annoying and I feel like if I'm paying this much money, those holes should really not be there-an annoyance for sure, but not a deal killer.

This desk really gives the room an open feel because the middle underside is completely open. All of the hardware mechanism is tucked up high near where the top surface is mounted. This means that all of your cables will be seen and the desk does not include any sort of cable management at all. Being a stand desk, you need to have long enough cables for it to be able to go up too.

In all, this is quite a functional desk that is of very good quality especially with a sold wood top. I also like the different choices of available base metal colors as well. But it's priced quite high.

Service and delivery comments:

Very good delivery in every respect. The elevator in the building was down at the time of delivery and while they delivery guys mentioned it, they did not complain.

Customer comments about Float® 60x30 Desk:

Desk works great and serves multiple purposes. Easy to raise and lower and good quality overall. Design is excellent with excellent finishes. We use this as a desk, work table for wrapping or crafts, and we have moved it out to the family room for parties, etc. It is very easy to raise and lower and you can adjust the mechanism for how much weight is on the table. There is a key to lock the table if you need to move it, etc. You can stop it at any height. I wish I had this at work at my office!

Customer comments about Float® 60x30 Desk:

I ordered a Float desk at the Seattle store. The first time I was scheduled for delivery, I received a call that the desk had been damaged in transit. They supposedly ordered a new desk for me and delivery was postponed by a week. Today my desk arrived, and while it looked pretty, the float function did not work properly. Did I actually receive a new desk, or was this the orginal desk supposedly repaired? The delivery guys could not get the desk to raise and lower properly, and so I sent it back.

I spent hours researching and shopping for the perfect desk and it was all a waste of time. Two strikes and you are out, Room and Board. Now I have a nonfunctional office and no time to deal with replacement during the holiday season. I will say that delivery guys were courteous and warehouse didn't argue with me about the refund, so there's that.

Bought this desk for my husband who works from our home office. He LOVES it. Loves the size, loves the color, loves how it moves up and down. Only thing we have to figure out is cord management from his laptop, monitor, etc.

Customer comments about Float® 48x30 Desk:

Updating my review from April 15, 2014.
I was contacted by R&B after posting my review of Apr 14 - they wanted to make me happy by offering a full refund, or a replacement desk, or a replacement top. As I did like the desk, I decided to keep the base and choose a different top. I went with a larger top - the standard 60x30 maple top (I'd previously purchased the 48 x 30 Solid Maple with Charcoal Stain). Again, the transaction was smooth, and I was amazed at the professionalism and follow-through of R&B Design Associate Sherri Klopfer. What an incredible asset R&B has in her as an employee! Now I can truly say that I LOVE my desk. There are holes on the bottom of the new desk top, but they are fewer in number than the old one. The maple desk top itself is beautiful, and unlike the charcoal stained top, seems durable and not so fragile.
Thank you, Room & Board (and Humanscale)!!

Customer comments about Float® 48x30 Desk:

Unfinished product: had to sand and finish the desktop myself. Delivered with a thin blotched charcoal stain. I had to take very fine sandpaper, "break" the surface a bit, and then put my own charcoal stain on. For the cost of this beast, you'd think Humanscale would give you a completed and professional product. R&B's Denver retail location, where I bought it, were disinterested. They couldn't be bothered with even looking at the pictures I took into their retail store much less documenting it. At this price point, I expect not only a finished product but a retailer that showed concern and collect the feedback for its supplier.

I like the product otherwise. Great concept that works … I can sit part of my workday and stand for part of it; that I like. Works as advertised. The pneumatic mechanism is smooth and easy to operate. On this basis I gave it a favorable rating.

I share the other comments about the hole on the bottom and the rough cut underneath. Again, awful fit and finish for this price point. I expect stuff like this from the box retailers, not R&B.

            Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt and in the timeframe advertised.

Customer comments about Float® 48x30 Desk:

This is a great desk and is an excellent alternative to electric sit-stand desks. Because it doesn't rely on an electric motor, it's smooth, silent and fast. However, one downside is that you won't be able to set your sit and stand settings like an electric desk. I think the tradeoffs are worth it.

My issue is around when you need servicing from Humanscale (which hopefully will never happen). I scheduled two appointments and both times the technician failed to arrive and failed to notify me that they wouldn't be coming. This after already paying the repair fee.

Customer comments about Float® 48x30 Desk:

It's a fantastic design by Humanscale. I chose the standard 60x30 maple top. The bottom side of the maple top has what seems to be handling holes and they were left ragged. On top of that, there is a dirt spot on the bottom side that was clear coat finished over. Then on top of that, the lift control was installed crooked.

I still love the desk but the sloppiness wasn't expected (especially at this price).
