Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

I am a writer and online business owner, so I spend a lot of time at my desk. I'd known that I needed a new setup for a while, but waited until carpal tunnel and bad back problems forced the issue. I did a TON of research into ergonomic chairs but I knew the proof was to sit in one before buying, so I came to sample Room and Board's excellent selection and fell in love with this chair. It's very easy to adjust, comfortable for long periods of time, and after nearly a month, my back pain has almost disappeared. I highly recommend giving this chair a try. Worth every penny.

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

After owning it for over 2 years, I have found that the embody chair is not a great chair. When I first tested it, it was a dream chair. The chair itself was very ergonomic and the chair was very comfortable. The cushion and suspension system lasted a long time. After 2 years, the cushion has worn out and I can feel the actually suspension wires on my legs. Now, after extended use it pinches my legs and buttocks. Very painful and annoying. I bought a seat cushion to compensate. I called Room and Board about replacing the cushion and suspension, but the guy told me that it will just happen again. Definitely not satisfied.

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

I suffer from back pain and posture issues from old injuries. This is the only desk chair I have tried that doesn't make my back feel worse. The way the seat back moves provides comfortable support even when my back is twisted.

My only complaint is that the castors began to scratch my hardwood floor - With a plastic floor protector I have no issues.

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

This chair is excellent. After visiting the store many times, and trying many chairs at many stores, I decided on the Aeron. I got it home, and hated it. After a month, I took it back, and bought the Embody and have never regretted it. My favorite thing is the wide and large flat seat, and the easy adjustable arms. Highly recommended.

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

I have purchased many office chairs over the years in the under $200 range thinking I was getting a "good deal", but in the end I paid for it with poor posture, circulation cut off in the legs, sore rear end, etc. I decided that I needed to stop buying sub-par chairs and get a great chair that would last. I went to Room and Board to initially look at an Aeron chair, but thought I should try all of the chairs available. When I sat in the Embody chair, I was sold! I had actually used this chair a year earlier at the Herman Miller sponsored Cusp Conference in Chicago and had totally forgotten about it--it has been great to become reacquanted.

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

I'm a consultant that can work at my desk for 8 - 10 hours a day and never realized the difference the right chair could make relating to comfort as well as physical issues, e.g., occasional back pain. My previous office chair was very high quality and although I hated paying $1000 or so for the Embody chair, the difference is night and day - having a 12 year warranty was also a main selling point for me.

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

As a filmmaker and new media creative director, I use the chair during the long, actually endless, hours of sitting in front of banks of monitors.I noticed that I have to make a conscious effort to sit in the chair correctly, but that is likely a conditioned response to the torture devices, and rocks, I have grown accustomed to straddling. That stated, when I do sit in it correctly and allow the chair to do what it was designed to do: provide back support, maintaining the spine in a natural and neutral state by conforming to the back's natural curvature -- I have noticed it makes a pretty substantial difference.Although I have years of overtaxed rhomboids and tightness in the trapezius muscles from improper sitting and typing, I have noticed that sitting on the Embody seems to have effectively nullified the problem. There is residual pain from the years of abuse, but I can see that the chair should provide years of comfort, and provided I actually get up and move around at times, I can see how the pain has the potential to be completely alleviated altogether. As for the detractors: For some reason, I get the feeling that I want to slide forward on the seat, leaving my lumbar in a pronounced state. Also, I detect distinct pressure points in the seat. As a leaner individual, basically it feels like my rear end is riding on a surface that is just a tad too firm. I did not expect this because the seat is devised of an intricate suspension system, which appears to have the primary pursuit of distributing weight evenly and ensuring that isolated areas of pressure do not develop. That may be the design intent, but somehow, my body is stating otherwise. I am sitting in the chair as I conduct this review, and the more I write, the more I notice the telltale hot spots. It's not as bad as sitting on your sciatic nerve (if you're ever done that - you know the excruciating pain I'm talking about), but I would think a [$] office chair should be like sitting atop a piece of heaven. That it's not. It's good, but it's not as perfect as some of the adulations product reviewers bestow on it. Okay, so all that stated, would I recommend it? Yes, I would. Like many other reviewers have also commented, the positives outweigh the very slight annoyances. While everyone can be expected to have a different reaction to various features of any product, most will likely find the things that do bother them minor in comparison to the tangible benefits. If you have back trouble, or are looking to avoid it in the first place and can afford the rather high outlay, this chair should definitely be in the upper echelon of contenders for your office chair needs.

Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was on time, and arrived in excellent condition. As it better for that amount of money. ;)

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Black Seat by Herman Miller®:

I spend hours in my home office on the phone and behind a computer so I felt compelled to invest in the health of my back. The Embody chair lives up to its hype as easily the most ergonomic chair I've sat in. Thanks to my company (and the tech boom of the 90s) I was fortunate enough to sit in an Aeron when they first came out and this is an evolutionary leap above. The Embody contours my spine and literally moves with me throughout the day. I don't feel the type of fatigue I used to feel in my original basic Herman Miller computer chair.

From a design perspective, its not ideal on its own. It does seem to work well as a nice contrast behind my rustic/contemporary black walnut desk with reclaimed wood facade. I think the only thing that would make it more ideal is if it came in a nice black leather.

Customer comments about Embody® Chair in Graphite with Rhythm Twilight Seat by Herman Miller®:

I've spent many hours in this chair and overall I'm happy with it. As my computer/desk chair, the padded elbow rests were a critical feature for me. The width is nice and I don't feel cramped in the seat. I thought that the lack of a head rest would bother me but it hasn't. The only negative is that sometimes I wish that the seat had a bit more cushion. Though pricey, I'd buy this chair again.
