Okamura

"Quality pays for itself." That’s the motto of office chair maker Okamura, which was founded in 1945 in Yokohama City, Japan. The company began as a sheet metal processor and evolved through the years, producing cars and planes along the way. In the 1960s, Okamura began to focus on desks and office chairs as well as retail fixtures. Today, the company is considered a global top five office furniture manufacturer and Room & Board is proud to be the only U.S. retailer of Okamura office chairs.

Okamura designs and builds innovative, ergonomic office chairs that are the result of thousands of hours of testing in their own lab to ensure the seats, backs and bases function in harmony. The designs are minimalist in style and easy to use. Okamura not only assembles the chairs, the company also manufactures many of the parts that go into them. A long and intense training period is required of anyone who works in the manufacturing facility, requiring a level of commitment that produces consistent quality and durability. Okamura’s background in commercial office settings means all of their office products are compliant with ANSI/BIFMA standards and GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality certified.
