The work of Danish modernist Hans Wegner exemplifies the functional, unadorned modern furniture designed in the Scandinavian country in the mid-20th century. But the love he felt for solid wood, and the simplicity with which he approached his designs to always highlight their careful construction and beautiful materials set his work apart.
Wegner is most closely identified with his chair designs, and he believed in "stripping the old chairs of their outer style and letting them appear in their pure construction." During the 1940s his chair styles caught the eye of the international design community, culminating in a 1950 cover story for his Round chair in the U.S. magazine Interiors.
Because of the purity of its construction and materials, Wegner's work has stood the test of time—an idea that drives every decision we make when creating our collections. At the same time, we, like Wegner, embrace solid wood and believe that furniture made of the material will add strength, warmth and natural beauty to your home.
