History

We met Arthur in 1988, collaborating on Heartwood, a collection inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement. Our partnership proved to be so successful and meaningful that we've developed other collections with the company over the years. In 2006, we introduced Anders, a line of simple bedroom furniture based on the work of noted 20th-century American modernist George Nakashima.

Craftsmanship

The company's pieces are created by hand from solid wood using the highest standards of craftsmanship. This not only gives the furniture an heirloom quality, it also contributes to the exceptional design and function of each piece. Custom quality is reflected in Vermont Furniture Design's flawless color and grain matching. Arthur and his team use a timeless approach, without using computers, relying instead on their hands and eyes, taking as much time as needed to find the perfect match.

Responsibility

By choosing to work with Vermont Furniture Designs, we believe that we're making a commitment to preserving the art of American furniture making. You'll see the attention to detail and remarkable quality each time you open a dresser drawer or close the door on one of their storage cabinets. "Everything is overbuilt," says Arthur. "Sturdy is an understatement for what we build." Because of this, the furniture they make isn't disposable. You'll enjoy it in your home for years.
