Host of American Public Media's public radio program, The Splendid Table® and author Lynne Rossetto Kasper is an expert on creating memorable meals. We asked her for tips on gathering people together.

"Whether in the kitchen or dining room, our tables have taken on new significance in this busy world. After all, one of the few times people look each other in the eye is when they sit across the table. I like to give three rules for a great get-together:

1. Create an intimate setting. Let your table be cozy with people even bumping elbows a bit.
2. Ask yourself, who is going to be sparked by sitting next to each other? Put interesting people together, even if they have never met.
3. Push the judgment out of your head. You don't have to be perfect. A relaxed host makes for happier guests.

Think natural and high—quality, whether it's the food on your plate or the table under it. When you focus on your guests' comfort instead of trying to impress them, everyone will feel loved and welcomed."
