Customer comments about Sequel Rolling Lateral File Cabinet:
Mostly works great, with one big exception, below.
I see negative comments about the finish but I have no complaints at this price point -- we have the cherry finish and you can tell it's veneer but it looks just fine next to all of our other stuff, the rest of which is nice wood. Fit and finish have been just fine, no complaints.
One big problem -- recently it locked shut, after about 6 years. Has no external key locking mechanism so this was mystifying -- and we had urgent need of some documents inside. Tried tipping it on front and on back, no luck.
The shipping center provided the answer -- the anti-tip mechanism had jammed. [And after I opened the bottom drawer to see the mechanism to write this description, it jammed again just now.]
If this happens to you, here's the fix, and it's easy. The locking device is a metal pin between the inside of the cabinet and the outermost edge of the drawer, on the right-hand side of each drawer. The top pin is the most accessible -- it's 7 inches from the top of the cabinet. I used the non-sharp edge of a bread knife and nudged it upward. You might need to go either up or down with it. Drawers opened right up.
This is easier than trying to break into your own car with a coat hanger, but not ideal. If the problem persists I may find it aggravating, but for now it's not bothering me too much as we don't access the files that often.
