Customer comments about Room & Board Hudson Queen Bed:

This is the bed we now sleep on every night. We're so pleased with the quality of the construction and the wood. It had a small intermittent squeak when brand new. That is getting better, and I assume it will eventually disappear entirely. It was never particularly bothersome. We could not be more pleased with our bed.

    Service and delivery comments:

R&B delivery put it together in no time flat and took away all the packaging, as usual (those guys are great).

    Beautiful bed with major flaw

Customer comments about Room & Board Hudson Queen Bed:

I ordered the Hudson bed in cherry. It took a month to arrive, but boy was it worth the wait. It is beautiful and well constructed save for one major flaw that I want to make others aware of. The bed has a small piece of wood that is screwed to the central slat that runs the full length of the bed. (This wood piece protects the bed from collapsing from top down weight). The wood piece, despite having been screwed in by the assembly team, is not stable, and each time the bed moves just slightly from side to side (e.g., toddlers plopping down, changing the sheets) the wood piece shifts onto its edge. Because it shifted onto its edge, the wood piece ended up SEVERELY scraping my hardwood floor before I realized there was a problem. Room & Board sent a furniture repair person out at no charge to stabilize the wood piece, but all he did was put in another screw. The wood piece shifts less, but it still shifts. The repair guy suggested I might buy some plastic shims to prevent further movement, which I will do, but those shims will look rather tacky underneath this gorgeous wood bed. If you have carpeted floors this probably won't be an issue, but anyone with hardwood floors should be careful. If it weren't for this flaw I would have given this bed a 5 star rating. I recommend it nonetheless.

Customer comments about Hudson California King Bed:

After scouring the showrooms and websites looking for a bedroom set, we fell in love with Room and Board's design options. We bought the entire bedroom set. The delivery and service was impeccable. The bed is a CA King size and it looks fine and functions well, however, the bed frame is larger than the standard mattress which leaves the parameters of the bed exposed and in need of "coverage." We chose solid walnut wood which is easily scratched/dented -- I know this because I had bought dining chairs of the same materail. We paid a high price for the bed and we would have expected a precise fit with the mattress. We recommend measuring your mattress before ordering the bed.

Customer comments about Room & Board Hudson Queen Bed:

I've only had this bed a month, but no complaints. I bought the walnut queen Hudson. No blemishes or scratches with the model delivered, and assembly was pretty easy and "should" be easy if/when I need to move it. The delivery duo pointed out that wood models are easier to install than upholstered beds (ah, I nearly went that route) and that because this model is real wood vs composite it is much lighter and easier to move. That will be proved with time, but for now I am quite happy with the product and the delivery.

          Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was on time and in good condition. The two men who set up the bed were nice, easygoing and provided helpful info about this product and about their knowledge of other R&B beds and mattresses in general. They placed the mattress after setting up the bed and had other tips to share. Very positive experience.

No squeaks as I saw in other reviews before purchasing, but the slats can make it difficult to make the bed. A flat board that fits under the mattress would be better. Love the quality and finish. Very pleased!

I love the fact that this bed is made of real wood by artisans. That's why I was willing to pay that much money for that. However, I expected more than its design and handcraft for the price. It makes a squeaky sound when you move on the bed. That is the only complaint about the bed so far.

my partner and i live in a standard one bedroom apartment in chicago. this bed fit the space perfectly, and was a great accent the furniture we have already. great minimalist design. hands down the best bed we've owned by far. the gentlemen who set up the bed were fast and efficient, and most importantly, friendly. we did have one problem with a nick in the wood, but was quickly resolved when a consultant came and repaired it, no questions asked.
both my partner and i recommend this bed, no matter what your design aesthetic happens to be.

          • Q:

I visited one of your stores and had a chance to see samples of the woods used for this bed. The Solid Maple with Charcoal Stain is one option I might consider. However, I noticed that the block sample was noticeably darker than a furniture piece (I think it was one of the Hudson dining armoires) that had the same stain description. One of the associates said that the particular WV producers may be using a somewhat lighter stain, through which you can see the wood grain more clearly. Is this the case for this particular collection? Over time, should I expect such a finish to get darker or lighter with time?

              A:

Our block samples are a representation of the charcoal stain, but there can be variances in the type of wood between our vendors. The Hudson piece you saw in the showroom would be the best example of the charcoal stain you can expect on your Hudson bed. Zooming in on the main image on the the product page also shows the depth of the stain. The charcoal stain will keep a consistent finish and should not lighten or darken over time.

The slats are always made from a hardwood but it can vary depending on availability of materials. Most often they are maple or ash.

Is this bed of slat construction or does the mattress rest on a solid piece of wood?

The Hudson bed features a wood slat support system with a center rail and support leg. There is about 4" between each wood slat.
