Customer comments about Nest Crib Bed:

Parts of the crib had not been finished properly - there were a number of rough patches, as though they forgot to sand them down. Not ideal when a baby is going to putting their hands all over the wood. They did send out a new one, although the delivery guy tried to argue with me that i just needed to refinish the crib myself. Um, no.

The finish scratches VERY easily. And not just scratches, but dents very easily too. Which is odd, as we have the Walnut which is typically a very hard wood. Its not durable at all, which is unfortunate as its being used by a child - not exactly the gentlest of users.

I like that its solid wood and the finish is (supposedly) non-toxic. And the design fits my style. But its incredibly "delicate" and not durable. Very disappointed.

    Easy to adjust

Customer comments about Nest Crib Bed:

We've had this crib 6 months now and it looks good and is solid. I'm prompted to review after discovering how easy it was to adjust the bed height. I just dropped the mattress down a notch since our daughter is moving around a lot. I expected lowering the frame to be annoying to handle on my own (despite being handy). However, the hinged design of the brackets made lowering the bed singlehandedly a snap. I was able to rotate the hinge to lower each screw while keeping the frame in place. Great job!
The only con we've found so far is that changing sheets on our standard mattress can be impossible without removing the mattress from the crib, which is safe but turns the whole process into a chore (more so I'm sure in the lower levels).

We haven't used the crib yet (our son isn't due to arrive until January), but my husband and I like the style of the crib. We ordered the conversion rail right away, too. We ordered the furniture planning on it lasting a long time, and it seems like it's built to do just that!

We chose this crib for our first baby and we can't wait to use it! It is very sturdy, the wood is beautiful and the mattress heights are perfect for infant to toddler. It was very hard to find a crib made in the USA with USA materials and it was very exciting to find this one. I am extremely happy with my purchase!

          Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was very prompt and the the crib was delivered in perfect condition. The delivery men set up the crib and were very careful with it, although my husband had to reverse a peice they installed upside down. Delivery was very courteous and helpful.

This is an absolutely beautiful crib. I am so pleased with it. The photos online do not do the walnut justice. It is so pretty in person - you can really see all the wood grain. You can also tell that it's all walnut contruction - no veneers, etc - which was very important to me. It smells like a wood working shop. The delivery men were great. They were so nice and helpful and even talked excitedly about our new baby-to-be. I would highly recommend Room & Board and this crib to anyone.

I am very happy and excited about the crib! It was presented to us as a gift by my generous boss who wanted to make sure that the baby had the very best crib (after doing a lot of research)! It's definitely a quality made crib that's sturdy and well-built. I love how it fills the room with the scent of fresh wood instead of toxic paint. :o)
The customer service has been fantastic as well~
I highly recommend this crib. The only negative comment I have is the high price tag, since it is more pricey than other cribs. However, it is made of solid maple~very beautiful.

Customer comments about Nest Crib Bed:

This is a gorgeous piece of furniture. I chose the cherry finish and was concerned it might be too pink/reddish, but the color is beautiful. The wood is smooth and beautifully finished. The corners on the top of the crib are slightly rounded, which I like--no sharp edges to run into. I really wanted a crib that was made only of solid wood and had no toxic finishes, particleboard, or veneer, and this crib is perfect. It has a lovely, subtle wood smell, like my grandfather's wood shop. Our baby has not come yet, so I can't speak to the durability of this crib, but it seems incredibly sturdy--I will be shocked if it doesn't stand up to years and years of use. I'm so glad I chose to invest in this crib. I love it!

                      Service and delivery comments:

After we set up a delivery date over the phone, we were given a 2-hour delivery window about 4 days beforehand. The delivery men arrived about 30 minutes into that timeframe, with a call 10 minutes before they arrived to tell us they were on their way. They were very courteous and efficient, and they had the crib set up in no time. Excellent service.

                        Q:

                        Hi:

In one of the answers above you suggest that the Cherry Nest crib matches the Calvin Pacific Coast Maple dresser. Is that correct? Does the Nest crib in Maple not match the Calvin dresser in Maple? Please advise

                        Thanks

The Calvin in Pacific Coast Maple has a more rosy appearance to it so it would work with both the Maple and Cherry however it is not a perfect match with either wood.

Are the natural wood ones stained? If so, is it a nontoxic finish? How about the white one? Is the lacquer paint non-voc?

All the finishes used on our cribs are tested for non-toxicity and contain no lead, per the Federal Regulation 16 CFR 1508. Our Suppliers use low VOC finishes. VOC's occur as they are applied and dissipate as the finish cures.

I am interested in the Nest Crib Bed in Walnut finish. It sounds like all of the finishes are lacquered. Is this correct? Could we expect the crib finish to be identical to the solid walnut swatch or will the lacquer effect the texture of the wood.

                          A:

The Nest crib is a solid natural walnut with a clear lacquer finish. No stain or color has been added to the finish so the material finish card would be representative of the crib in walnut. The lacquer finish is low shine.

Hi, it looks like R&B does not sell a matching changing table or a changing table topper that could be strapped to the top of a chest of drawers/bureau. Does R&B have any suggestions for something that could match the cherry wood well and serve as a changing table?

It is possible to order a material card in solid walnut. On the Nest crib product page on the left-hand side, just below the product description, towards the bottom there is a link to "View and request material card". From there scroll through until you see swatch for solid walnut. You can then save the swatch and order your selected swatches via the "My Swatches" tab. http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/swatchlist/list.do?tab=material

The Sherwood collection works well with the Nest crib and is available in both cherry and walnut. Both collections have a similar classic style. In addition, the Calvin collection in the Pacific coast maple finish works well with the natural cherry Nest crib.
