This rug is very sensuous underfoot; we want to rub our bare feet on it every time we sit near it, and my cat has adopted it as his new bed. However, he has developed cat acne on his chin from resting his head on it, because he is allergic to the plastic or glue on its underside. We have had no issues at all with shedding, just vacuuming it weekly; however, it is not in a high traffic area, which helps. Overall, although it was expensive, it is a classic, versatile shag rug which we hope will prove durable over the years.

This rug is unique in its texture---not too chunky or too shaggy, but just a classic shag. We have not had any shedding issue at all with it, perhaps partly because we have it under our cocktail table in our living room, not a high traffic area. It feels so soft and comfortable underfoot that we can't help but rub our feet on it while sitting near it; our cat is happy we bought it, too, and rests on it whenever he gets the chance. We bought the ivory, and it adds a lovely visual interest to the room, too, viewable through our Room and Board Parsons glass top cocktail table. It's more expensive than some shag rugs, so I'm hoping that, after a few years of use, I will be able to mark "durable" as one of its advantages, too.

Service and delivery comments:

We have had several deliveries from Room and Board, and this delivery was the first one done by a contracted delivery service, rather than by the Room and Board delivery service. The delivery workers were just as prompt and courteous as the Room and Board delivery workers (even volunteering to put on paper booties when they saw we had light beige Berber carpet). We did have some dirt on the ivory leather Enzo chairs delivered that same day; but subsequent Room and Board delivery workers cleaned most of it off.

I love this rug, But I really am blown away by the daily maintenance. It's been about a month and every single day we have to carefully sweep and then vacuum (without rollers) and then clean our entire house because it sheds and blows around EVERYwhere. Consequently, there are particles in the air and this can't be at all healthy.
The sales rep said it sheds a bit but just for a while.
We were TOTALLY duped.
Not a surprise that she didn't call back after I left a concerned voicemail message, making it clear that the R & B sales aftercare is a joke. I guess that the laugh's on us.

Let me say first that the salespeople at Room and Board are amazing. So my comment has nothing to do with the service I received -- they were very knowledgable, helpful and accommodating.

I ordered this rug in the smaller size first. It had a crease that would not come out. So, we arranged an exchange. In the interim of waiting for the second rug, it shed constantly. Serious mountains of fuzz. We had fuzz everywhere for over a month. It destroyed a Miele vacuum even though we did exactly what they told us to do.

When the second one arrived, the carpet was separating from the backing. Clumps of carpet were coming off. And, again with the shedding. Also, it is important to note that the edges are unfinished -- JUST CUT. On a rug in this price point, I would expect the edges to be bound. Not just cut like a piece of remnant carpet.

I don't think this amount of shedding is normal ... or healthy. Sorry, this rug is too expensive to be unfinished and shed massively.

This is a very simple but well-made rug. I liked the neutral colors to anchor a graphite sofa on top of walnut hardwoods. It blends in to the room well and is comfortable underfoot. There is a slight shedding problem at first but far less than I have seen with other wool rugs and not as bad as some reviews led me to believe. There is a slight bluish hue to the rug in low light but bright light and daytime light make it more true to the ivory/gray. I recommend getting the sample and seeing it in different lights. Overall, very happy with the purchase.

We have this in an area with low traffic, where no one wears shoes. It shed excessively for the first month, little balls of wool everywhere. It seems to shed less now after 3 months. It must be vacuumed by hand in rows back and forth . It is labor intensive, but I still love the rug. It looks and feels luxurious. The gray color is very rich.

4 months in, it still sheds a lot. But this is the first shag or wool rug I have owned so I can't compare it with other rugs where shedding is a common complaint. The real test will be how the rug looks years from now. It gets a lot of positive comments from guests, probably more than anything else I have from Room & Board. I like that it's not an overly modern, or overly vintage looking shag rug - it can fit into any decor.
