Customer comments about Pharmacy Floor Lamp:
I love everything about this lamp except that the shade part doesn't stay tightened. We have two and both are equally unreliable. I was also really disappointed that R&B would deliver a lamp with a frayed cord.

Customer comments about Pharmacy Floor Lamp:
Although we have purchased many items from Room and Board, and have been very pleased with the quality, this item was disappointing. The Pharmacy lamp, though constructed of a solid weight metal, has plastic adjusting knobs, and I have no confidence in its ability to stand up over time. I might have expected this kind of quality from a discount store, but not Room and Board. The knobs even fell cheap when you touch them.

Customer comments about Pharmacy Floor Lamp:
I chose this lamp over "Tenda Pharmacy" and "Tab" models because I didn't want a halogen type bulb. This lamp uses a normal 60 watt bulb and has a dimmer function. It actually arrived with an energy saving bulb (the twisty kind) packed in the box, and that also works very well and feels cooler, but if you want the dimmer function you would have to use a normal 60 watt bulb.
I gave it 4 stars because it's a good lamp - easy to assemble and the materials are solid. Bronze color blends well, the base is heavy enough yet the lamp is not hard to move around. The height adjustment is simple - it just goes up or down and then you tighten the screw to lock height in place.
The missing star is because I don't like the lamp head/ neck adjustment. It has two screws on either side of the neck that lock the angle of the lamp head in place and they must be very tight. Any small change you make results in the screws loosening and the lamp head falling completely forward to vertical position.
So it's a pain to readjust especially once you're already seated. You must put your reading material down, get up, reposition the lamp head and re-tighten the screws. This is a two handed operation. For a lamp of this price I would prefer the ability to adjust with one hand, thus being able to both keep my book in my hand and also remain seated.
In my case, I just found a position that works and generally leave it there (it's beside an arm chair). So I can live with it. It is really more of a fixed head type lamp that can be adjusted from time to time. So if you think you would not be fiddling with the angle a lot, this is a great lamp.
