Beauty knows no comfort

Pros

  • Great design

Cons

  • Uncomfortable sit

Best Uses

  • Accent
  • Formal

Customer comments about Anson 86" Sofa:

If you are looking for a good looking piece that you don't need to sit on, the Anson is the sofa for you. If you want something to hang out on, this won't do. The back is the wrong height, and the cushions too firm. We regretted our purchase right away, though it is very pretty. Form has to follow function for us I guess. Too bad.

Service and delivery comments:

The delivery was painless and all the people I dealt with were friendly and helpful. The return was simple, if not quick. All in all, great customer service.

Customer comments about Anson 86" Sofa:

Having lived in an NYC apartment for 6 years with an "apartment sized" sofa, I have been dreaming of the day where I could lay out flat on a sofa while watching TV and still share some space with my husband and dog. Well that day has finally come!!! After looking at about every sofa in stores and a billion online, I decided this was "the sofa" and had the tough decision of going with the 78" or 86" version. I knew the 78" was a safer choice but I wanted to get as big of sofa I could get without looking disproportionate. I went with the 86" version and I am so glad I did. With the clean lines and low back, it give you lots of seating without making the room feel visually crowded.

It has been two months since we got the sofa and the cushions are maintaining their shape but there are some wrinkles in the leather on the cushions that make it looks like it has been sat in. It doesn't take away form the look and design in my opinion. I prefer a comfortable lived in modern feel as opposed to a cold/hard/steral modern feel. To maintain a very rigid shape the cushions would have to be as hard as rocks. They give a bit so the leather stretches and you get some minor rippling. If you are concerned about this I would suggest going into the store and look at the floor model in person to see if it bothers you. The floor model in NYC looked great but had the same rippling and it completely didn't bother me.

Customer comments about Anson 86" Sofa:

I have to say right off the bat that I've never spent this much for a piece of furniture. Low and behold, after three years of drooling over this design and not being able to find another less expensive one with the same look, I bit the bullet. I went the custom color route as I thought black leather was a much better fit for this couch and I believe I was right (check out my photo and you can decide for yourself). After resolving the squeaky legs (only needed black felt pads to do this), I noticed something "off" with the right arm. When I compared it to the left side, I realized there was almost no padding in it. So... they sent out a repair/inspector representative who immediately noticed it was a defect and ordered a replacement sofa on the spot. Honestly, it was not too noticeable, but with the amount I spent, I have to say I wanted perfection. After about 5 weeks, my new one has arrived! Poor delivery guys had to wait while I went over it with a fine tooth comb (not really a comb...). There was a slight scuff on one leg, which they made an appointment to get fixed (wonder if it will be the same guy). I gave it five stars because it truly is a very stellar sofa and the leather is ridiculously soft and high quality. It's also a comfortable sit and just looks awesome. I'm totally laid back and willing to work with them until everything is perfect, just not sure I should "have to" with the cost. All in all, I do highly recommend this sofa as long as you are willing to help R&B get things right. Perhaps quality control could be stepped up a notch; however, their customer service trumps any other furniture store!

    Service and delivery comments:

Really fantastic service all around from the store to delivery guys to customer service.

Customer comments about Anson 86" Sofa:

I bought this sofa and matching chair in June 2012 as primary seating in my living room because I fell in love with the design and the pumpkin leather color. This was the first time I bought living room furniture from Room & Board, hoping that the high price tag and US manufacture would give me quality furniture that will last many years. After less than six months, one of the seat cushion warped to the point that it doesn't stay flat against the back, moves back and forth when sat on, and visibly protrudes further than the other seat cushion.

This sofa looks classy and fun, especially in the pumpkin leather. After one year I still love it. It is not too deep, not too high, and not too mushy (which describes most sofas these days). The leather is unbelievably buttery soft and awesome.

Customer comments about Anson 86" Sofa:

In living with this couch for 2 months now we noticed the leather is the very resistant to scuffs and scrapes (our daughter wears leg braces and is on it all the time) and overall seem extremely well made. We searched and searched for a couch that could easily be cleaned this was the best we found. Many cheaper leather couches sew the cushions on, leaving deep crevices to collect spills and everything else. We think the simple design is very tasteful, and the color is far more versatile than the pictures show. We might of not choose this couch without being able to take home a color sample for R&B. Pending any disaster, this was a lifetime purchase.

      Service and delivery comments:

Fantastic service. Came right on time, called in route. Took the wrappings away, delivery staff encouraged us to call with any problems.

Customer comments about Anson 78" Sofa:

We purchased this sofa for the new home we built last year that is modern/contemporary. I've been furnishing it with both new and vintage mid-century modern pieces slowly since then. This sofa has the perfect balance of old and new. It fits very well with my vintage pieces and also is nicely updated for today. I love the curved sides and low back. The Bison leather is thick, soft and supple. The Dijon color is rich and deep. It also has a very good depth - not too shallow for tall people and not too deep for short people. I'm 5'2", but my husband is 6'1", so it's nice to find something we are both comfortable sitting on. It is a great sofa for an open space; in my opinion it's far too beautiful on the back to put up against a wall. I would definitely recommend this sofa for anyone who wants a quality piece of furniture with a retro look and feel. Great job R&B! But, where's the coordinating ottoman? I would really like one.

Customer comments about Anson 86" Sofa:

The sofa looks fantastic in our kitchen/family room and because it is leather is easy to take care of in that space. Great for informal company, sitting and chatting and snacking. It is not, however, the cushiest sofa ever, and while there's plenty of room for two people to recline together and watch TV, the arms are a bit low and the upholstery a bit unyielding to make this as comfortable as it was on our old, ugly, squishy sofa. Adding the right throw pillows helps. Overall, well worth it.
