This desk is ideal for a small office or space within a larger room. It has a small footprint but big style and presence. I call it the little "pencil box on sticks" desk. It combines great form with practical function.

Replaced a nice antique table that was out-of-place in decor. Integral file drawer is nice feature - just had to eliminate some unneeded files. Solid feel and enough table top for computer monitor and writing surface. Intend to move printer to a closet somewhere in the future. Would like more drawer space, but don't see how to do it (a clever tray in the keyboard pull-out might help). Appreciate the USA maker, too.

Beautiful looking desk--clean lines. nice for a small space. I don't love the drawer that opens up for keyboard. I wouldn't stick a keyboard in there, and it's a bit of a pain. I wish I could lock it in place.

It amazes me what some people complain about: size, colour, storage ... Ellis is gorgeous wood, clean lines, perfect size (dimensions are listed on the site so you know ahead of time what you're buying). I ordered my Ellis in walnut, along with 3 Pisa shelves in cherry to outfit my home office. I requested warm tones and someone viewed the pieces together in the warehouse and chose 3 Pisa that match perfectly, and the rich tone of Ellis is a beautiful contrast. The keyboard shelf is what it is, functional, hidden beautifully by the front panel, open at the back for cords, sturdy when pulled out for use, definitely large enough for my 17" laptop to reside comfortably beneath the desktop. The top surface is spacious, for a monitor, desktop file, letter trays, lamp, and still writing space. The file drawer keeps my papers contained, and the smaller drawer has plenty of space for all the things I need close-at-hand. Ellis is finished all the way around so I float it in the room with its back to the door. Perfect for my small office. Speaking to the heirloom quality/look, my mother said it reminds her of her father's desk. I'm already scouting R&B for more accents to further beautify my home.

Service and delivery comments:

Room and Board Delivery always goes above and beyond. I have a house full of R&B and with each order I receive a delivery date of my choice, a call-ahead a couple days before to cement the short delivery window, and a call from the driver shortly before they arrive. Shoes are removed without question, and pieces are placed exactly where I want them, unwrapped, assembled, perfect. Exchanges, on the rare occasion something isn't quite right with a piece, are no-hassle, easy, convenient (I was allowed to keep my custom sofa with a minor flaw while a new one was made for me, and they were switched out on the same day).

The desk looks great. The cherry finish is rich and unlike most desks, it is small and elegant and does not take over the room. It is perfect for a small home office, for laptop users.

However, the drawers are hard to open, and when you pull you often pull the entire desk. The middle drawer is a pull out keyboard shelf, rather than a drawer. Given the size of the desk, it is not really designed for a desktop computer, so I am not sure why there is need for a keyboard shelf. I use it as a regular drawer.

I liked the look of this desk online and like it even more now it is in my house. I wanted a desk for my bedroom that didn't scream "desk". This is a beautiful piece of furniture that is elegant in design. I like the fact it only has limited storage because it doesn't overpower the space it's in like most desks do. I love the cherry and am so glad I chose it.

Customer service worked with me to have the delivery be scheduled around some upcoming surgery. The delivery men were fantastic; very careful bring the furniture in and because they knew I couldn't lift anything made sure that the pieces I purchased were put just where I wanted them.

Lovely desk, but two drawbacks that took away one star. First, one of the clips in the drop down keyboard tray bent after first use, and had to be carefully straightened. It was not aligned properly. Second, and most distressing, it lacks a hole for computer cables. As is, the monitor and power cables dangle across the top of the desk and down the side, ruining an otherwise clean design. I may have to drill my own hole, which is causing my wife some stress. As this is obviously designed for home office user, with a keyboard tray, it is odd that it does not accommodate cables.

I'm glad I splurged a bit and didn't go the [...] route.[...] makes perfectly serviceable stuff and if that's akin to flying in the economy cabin then this Room & Board desk is like being in first class. It's a solid desk that will last me a lifetime.It's perfect for my Mac Mini server which sits at the very back of the keyboard tray.
