I'm posting a picture as a followup to the review I wrote. I hadn't quite finished with the interior when I did the original review. So here's the final product.

There's a reason R&B doesn't show this piece open - it's not very functional. That said, here's what I did:
1) Remove the bottom closure hardware for the doors. You still have a pair at the top, and you gain a clear space for your laptop.
2) Get some better hinges. These open only 110 degrees. Hardwaresource.com has some Blum hinges that open to 170 degrees. Big improvement!
3) Didn't need a 17" deep shelf on top. I cut it in half lengthwise and now have 2 adjustable shelves for books.
4) Knobs definitely need to be changed out. I had trouble opening the R&B-supplied set.
5) Had to lay down plastic on equipment areas because the rubber feet on bottom leave black marks. They clean up, though, with Mr.Clean sponge.
6)There was a chip on the finish of the metal base. I had to buy some not-quite matching paint to disguise it.
I didn't notice any problem with odors. And the piece holds quite a lot if you know how to trick it out and are handy with some tools. I'd also like to put a magnet strip along the side to hold containers for office supplies, and make a space for paper management. So, I would recommend this to a friend with reservations. Be creative!

I purchased this piece without seeing an example, but was told that it closely resembled other pieces on display from the "Linear" line. (I was told by my sales representative that the Denver showroom is half of the size of others and that they couldn't stock the full R&B catalogue.)

One disappointment with the piece is with the hardware- although well built and sturdy, the standard kitchen cabinet hinges and (oddly colored) door clasps detract significantly from the over-all aesthetic of the piece when the monitor doors are open and suggest a "cheaper" construction than the material (walnut) of the casework deserves. The hardware is also unfortunately located- the clasps, located at the top and bottom of the doors, sit directly, intrusively on the monitor shelf.

Another disappointment is with the powerful chemical odor of the finish.

Despite these two concerns, the piece is otherwise nicely made and attractive.

Used as an office / computer armoire stashed away in a corner of the dining room. Fits a large-ish, wide-format monitor (22"), router and compact scanner on the upper shelf with a horizontal desktop PC on the lower shelf. Pull-out tray is great for keyboard / mouse / writing. Smaller drawer works well for stashing miscellany and larger drawer fits a reasonable number of hanging files.

The piece looks great and works extremely well as a discreet home office for a professional who frequently needs to log-in to the office after work a few hours each week.

The walnut is gorgeous but scratches quite easily (thanks to the toddlers).

Could earn five stars with a lower price, sturdier finish and some additional cable-management and other PC-related storage configuration options (eg. a roll-out compartment for a printer).

I live in a studio apartment and this product was a great solution to my space limitations and need for storage. The pull out work shelf is perfect for use with a laptop computer, which can be tucked away when not in use. This is a quality piece of furniture that will last for a long time. The design has a nice retro-modern feel and is constructed from beautiful solid wood, not particle board, which is harder to come by these days. The only drawback is because the wood has an stain and oil coating, it is more easily scratched, so be careful if you place items on it that could scratch it.

We bought two of these two years ago to use as desks for our two boys. They coordinate well with the Riley collection although the finish is slightly different. The nice thing is that this piece doesn't take up a lot of room and you can open it up to pull out the work space, or close it to hide all the mess Kids' desks are messy and I love that the clutter is hidden. THe finish is holding up great-- hides scratches. We have the cherry color. Love them!

The quality of the desk is quite good. Fit and finish are topnotch. The fact that it was assembled was a major plus. I'm very happy with it in my living room. I will buy another one for my house in PA.

The best way to clean is with an oil soap.

I bought this desk for my husband's office, which doubles as an occasional guest room and is visible from the living room. The slide out desk top is perfect for his laptop and the cabinet below keeps all the office clutter hidden away.
