Customer comments about Linear 56h 26w Office Armoire with Steel Base:

The doors stuck making them impossible to open with the little metal pulls not providing enough leverage, so I used plyers to squeeze the mechanism together and now I can open the doors.

Needed a place to store my printer and modem. This is the perfect width to fit my space. And it matches the linear console I'm using for TV stand/more office storage.

Customer comments about Linear 56h 26w Office Armoire with Steel Base:

Nutshell: This is just not designed well to be a comfortable desk/writing surface, the pull-out tray moves and doesn't lock in place. Just think of it as a storage cabinet. If you are looking for a secretary - type piece, this is not it.

I have a very small library and was trying to add a compact storage and work/writing/desk surface to the room for bill paying, working on laptop etc.

Like other folks, it's a definite disadvantage to not see the item in person. The sales persons showed us the wine cabinet/bar as a comparison. When I saw the item for the first time in my house, it appeared boxy and short. It is way too deep. Think - very boxy chest of drawers. My husband said it's like an R2D2 / Star Wars droid.

Also please note we ordered the "Shell" stain / non-stock color (which was supposed to look beachy) but it had a very pink hue to it.

Ours pull-out tray had damage and like the other reviewers, the knobs chipped in 1 day and are not very easy to pull.

We are unfortunately returning simply due to the aesthetics and design function of the piece.

Room and Board has been wonderful. Though they really do need to get some of these pieces visible somehow and definitely should at LEAST show on their website how this piece looks when opened. We do have to pay a restock fee since it was a custom order.

Customer comments about Linear 56h 26w Office Armoire with Steel Base:

There's a reason R&B doesn't show this piece open - it's not very functional. That said, here's what I did:
    1) Remove the bottom closure hardware for the doors. You still have a pair at the top, and you gain a clear space for your laptop.
    2) Get some better hinges. These open only 110 degrees. Hardwaresource.com has some Blum hinges that open to 170 degrees. Big improvement!
    3) Didn't need a 17" deep shelf on top. I cut it in half lengthwise and now have 2 adjustable shelves for books.
    4) Knobs definitely need to be changed out. I had trouble opening the R&B-supplied set.
    5) Had to lay down plastic on equipment areas because the rubber feet on bottom leave black marks. They clean up, though, with Mr.Clean sponge.
6)There was a chip on the finish of the metal base. I had to buy some not-quite matching paint to disguise it.
I didn't notice any problem with odors. And the piece holds quite a lot if you know how to trick it out and are handy with some tools. I'd also like to put a magnet strip along the side to hold containers for office supplies, and make a space for paper management. So, I would recommend this to a friend with reservations. Be creative!

    Elegant Solution

Customer comments about Linear 56h 26w Office Armoire with Steel Base:

I purchased this piece without seeing an example, but was told that it closely resembled other pieces on display from the "Linear" line. (I was told by my sales representative that the Denver showroom is half of the size of others and that they couldn't stock the full R&B catalogue.)

One disappointment with the piece is with the hardware- although well built and sturdy, the standard kitchen cabinet hinges and (oddly colored) door clasps detract significantly from the over-all aesthetic of the piece when the monitor doors are open and suggest a "cheaper" construction than the material (walnut) of the casework deserves. The hardware is also unfortunately located- the clasps, located at the top and bottom of the doors, sit directly, intrusively on the monitor shelf.

Another disappointment is with the powerful chemical odor of the finish.

Despite these two concerns, the piece is otherwise nicely made and attractive.

      Compact but highly functional

Customer comments about Linear 56h 26w Office Armoire with Steel Base:

Used as an office / computer armoire stashed away in a corner of the dining room. Fits a large-ish, wide-format monitor (22"), router and compact scanner on the upper shelf with a horizontal desktop PC on the lower shelf. Pull-out tray is great for keyboard / mouse / writing. Smaller drawer works well for stashing miscellany and larger drawer fits a reasonable number of hanging files.

The piece looks great and works extremely well as a discreet home office for a professional who frequently needs to log-in to the office after work a few hours each week.

The walnut is gorgeous but scratches quite easily (thanks to the toddlers).

Could earn five stars with a lower price, sturdier finish and some additional cable-management and other PC-related storage configuration options (eg. a roll-out compartment for a printer).

Customer comments about Linear 56h 26w Office Armoire with Steel Base:

I live in a studio apartment and this product was a great solution to my space limitations and need for storage. The pull out work shelf is perfect for use with a laptop computer, which can be tucked away when not in use. This is a quality piece of furniture that will last for a long time. The design has a nice retro-modern feel and is constructed from beautiful solid wood, not particle board, which is harder to come by these days. The only drawback is because the wood has an stain and oil coating, it is more easily scratched, so be careful if you place items on it that could scratch it.

We bought two of these two years ago to use as desks for our two boys. They coordinate well with the Riley collection although the finish is slightly different. The nice thing is that this piece doesn't take up a lot of room and you can open it up to pull out the work space, or close it to hide all the mess Kids' desks are messy and I love that the clutter is hidden. THe finish is holding up great-- hides scratches. We have the cherry color. Love them!

The quality of the desk is quite good. Fit and finish are topnotch. The fact that it was assembled was a major plus. I'm very happy with it in my living room. I will buy another one for my house in PA.

The best way to clean is with an oil soap.

                A:

The bottom drawer of this Linear office cabinet is a file drawer for either letter or legal files. The drawer just above it isn't tall enough for files. Behind the door is a wire management hole centered above the bottom shelve and an adjustable shelf.
These are solid wood cases so the interior is the same material as the exterior. The drawer boxes are maple plywood with dovetail joinery.
Our Linear custom program offers file drawers and allows you to configure the cabinet space.
