We needed additional book storage after we moved from a cute 1930's Tudor with lots of built-in storage to a charmless 1990's house in the suburbs. The Pisa fit the bill. It holds a lot of books. We use it in our master bedroom, and its simple design blends right in with the other furniture. It seems to be very solidly constructed. I couldn't be happier with this purchase (a very good value).

The Pisa shelf is ideal for my son's room to
display his Lego creations. They were previously
all over the floor but now he can display them,
see them and work with them....but they don't take
up any space! Its great! Love the colors but we
went with white.
They came assembled at the delivery, which took
about 5 minutes. Amazing.

The shelves look great from a few feet away, but the white finish is inconsistent and detracts from an otherwise great piece. Other reviewers have voiced the same complaint - I thought they were being overly critical until I received mine. Most of the piece is fine, but there are large areas where it looks like the spray gun missed it on the 2nd coat - the brown color can be seen in the wood grain.

The shelves are made of quality wood and are sturdy enough to hold real books. Other stores offer similar shelves that are much lower in quality - these blow them away.

I would also prefer the screws on the side to be white also (they are silver).

I would recommend to a friend due to the sturdiness of the unit, but I would make sure they understand the finish issues.

Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt and the delivery men were nice enough. I think I was the last of the day and they did a poor job of wiping down the furniture to remove all the dirt from transport and packaging.

I ordered an additional shelf to pair with one I purchased 5 yrs ago.
I am very pleased that the quality and design are consistent with the original.
I was surprised by how different the cherry finish was in the newer one. Surprisingly much lighter than the older one. Called customer service, they assured me I was sent the correct finish and it would darken as it is exposed to sunlight. Overall very pleased and extremely attentive customer service.

Beautiful piece of furniture. It looks wonderful in our living room. Lots of storage, very sturdy. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that the wood is not quite as hard as I expected for solid walnut. It is a little soft and was much easier to scratch than expected.

Perfect finishing touch to a difficult corner to decorate. Easy to assembly but does emit an odor right out of the box.

Service and delivery comments:

The Room & Board customer service representative let me know that items that require assembly can be shipped by UPS if they fit within the UPS size restrictions. My bookshelf cost $25 to ship! I live 350 miles from the nearest R&B and the regular minimum shipping fee is several hundred dollars. I will surely order this way (with UPS delivery) again! The bookshelf was easily assembled in 20 minutes.
