Customer comments about Pisa 76h 32x14 Leaning Shelf:

Beautiful shelves. We bought two of these and will probably buy more when we move to a larger apartment. More expensive than other leaning bookshelves, but worth the money. The wood does not stand out too much so the shelves feel light, but the wood still adds a richness. We have molding on our walls (pre-war building) so the shelves had to be placed to avoid the molding. We don't have any children so we did not attach the shelves to our walls and the weight of the books weighs the shelves enough so that they still feel stable. The top shelf will probably not hold hard cover books, just an fyi.

Customer comments about Pisa 76h 32x14 Leaning Shelf:

really well thought out. The space between the shelves hits the mark, not to low, not to high.

    Great balance.

I opted to put a black brace on the bottom, hooked to the baseboard and the legs of the shelves, vs. the L brackets at the top. Achieves the same goal of preventing sliding and tipping, without putting holes in the wall.

Customer comments about Pisa 76h 32x14 Leaning Shelf:

The only potential difficulty is in the installation of the small clips that hold the top to the wall - it takes a bit of measurement and fiddling to get them perfect. Also, the screw holes in the top of the actual legs weren't pre drilled, which could make installing the screws difficult if you're not prepared to deal with that. We now have 5 or so of these in the house, and they are terrific.

We were looking for a desk/bookshelf type option that would save space but also hold what was originally on our large desk. This item paired with the Pisa Leaning Desk did the trick. Our small room looks so much better now and there is plenty of storage. Love the low profile and the Walnut is beautiful. We get tons of compliments.

Customer comments about Pisa 76h 32x14 Leaning Shelf:

Great shelves, but a little difficult to get mounted correctly. Just mounting the top with the included brackets allowed the shelves to still slide out on the bottom and they were not flush with the floor. This may have been compounded by the skirting in the room, but I needed to go get some additional L-brackets and screw the next-to-lowest shelf to the skirting, and slip some pads under the feet so they were tight with the floor.

Now it's mounted rock solid against the wall and it looks great.

Customer comments about Pisa 76h 32x14 Leaning Shelf:

We needed additional book storage after we moved from a cute 1930's Tudor with lots of built-in storage to a charmless 1990's house in the suburbs. The Pisa fit the bill. It holds a lot of books. We use it in our master bedroom, and its simple design blends right in with the other furniture. It seems to be very solidly constructed. I couldn't be happier with this purchase (a very good value).

Is it necessary to mount the 76" Pisa shelf to the wall? I'm not really supposed to drill holes in my apartment. I looked at the one displayed in the store and it seemed pretty stable without being attached. Would there be different weight limits for attached vs. unattached?

For the Pisa Leaning Shelf, are either the solid oak with ebony stain or the solid maple painted graphite similar to the color of the solid maple with charcoal stain of the Hudson media cabinet? I am trying to find a bookshelf to match the media cabinet. Thanks.

Our Pisa Collection does not offer a Charcoal Stain option, the Ebony and Graphite finishes would not be a close match. I would suggest looking at our Woodwind collection.

The Pisa Leaning Shelf was not designed to be used with any of the shelves removed, so the structural integrity may be compromised. The notches are in the shelves, and the depth of the piece should be considered when deciding to put audio or video equipment on this piece.

                    Asked on 6/18/2013 by S S

                    1 answer

                    • DESIGN ASSOCIATE

                      A:

No, satin wax wouldn't be recommended for the Pisa shelves as they are sealed with a lacquer finish. This lacquer protects the wood from stains and allows you to simply dust to keep them clean. If you have a stain or a sticky spot, try cleaning with a mild solution of water and soap. Then wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry the surface. Let us know if you have further questions about caring for your walnut Pisa shelves.

                      A:

Yes, the Pisa assembly is pretty straight forward as each shelf bolts into the side rails and we have the assembly instructions on our website for you to access when needed.
