This is my second Artemide lamp. The first I bought nearly six years ago (the mini) and it is better today than the day I got it. But beware – Room & Board is advertising these lamps as Made in Italy (like they used to be), but they are now outsourced for cheaper production to Hungary. It says so on the lamp itself.
This new Micro version of the Artemide falls very short in quality and bears little resemblance to the Artemide's made in Italy. I actually tapped the lamp to see if it was plastic just painted metallic. It's creaky and rough when trying to move the direction of the light. The base, which feels flimsy also, is too light and the whole lamp moves when trying to adjust the light. The previous model glides.
Nothing against Hungary – the ho-hum quality of this high-priced lamp has to do with outsourcing to a far-off factory (rather than at the Artemide house in Italy) and where that factory happens to be is not the point. But buyer beware if you think you're buying a Made in Italy Artemide as advertised (and why wouldn't you?). You aren't. And it shows – everything has declined except the price tag.

My wife and I use a pair of these as our bedside lamps. If you're looking for a diffuse light source, this is not the lamp you want. But as a source of focused light for reading in bed, these work great, look great, and are very solidly built.

I have the small Basis desk, in my small bedroom and needed a small work lamp that would look good in the room, on the desk and be highly functional. While I paused at the price, I relented and bought it. I'm glad I did as it is a great value for the quality and functionality of the lamp. It's so much sturdier than I ever imagined. The light output is perfect for the space too. It will be used for years and years. Hooray for great finds!

We use this lamp for our piano and absolutely love it. Excellent light output and the switch is really easy to turn on and off, especially for my kids. The design is very clean and modern but it also goes well with my more traditional furniture pieces. This is my favorite desk lamp and I'm going to buy another one for my husband's desk. It is well constructed and sturdy.
