Got the chairs in cherry to go with a custom made cherry table, I love that they are very sturdy but not heavy to move. Also like that the backs are not to high, very comfortable to sit on.

Chair is exactly what I was looking for. Delivery was great, as usual! We love the chairs but have one disappointing comment. They dent easily! I have no clue why. All of our furniture in our home is solid cherry -- everything from dining room table to book shelfs, beds -- and none of our furniture dents easily except these chairs. For some reason this cherry wood is softer than what we have all of over the house. We have several dents already from just pushing the chairs in toward the table after we eat. And we are not a family with little kids. Now everyone has to be so vigilant about pushing the chairs in. I wonder what they are going to look like in a year -- I can already imagine! Too bad.

We have a metal table with a granite top and the walnut chairs look great but we hadn't even used the chairs yet when we realized that as soon as you pushed in the chairs and they hit the metal (even gently), they were marked up. So after a couple of weeks they all have the same marks. However with 3 kids 7 and under they are virtually untipable so we will be keeping them, marks and all!

Chairs are beautifully made with a contoured seat that make them great for long periods of sitting. They have a danish modern yet traditional style and fit into any decor.

I was intriged by the reviewer that reccommended going to South Cone to look for a better built and less expensive chair than the Afton Side Chair in walnut. No way can you find a comprable alternative at South Cone. It's not even in the same catagorey of the kind furniture that Room and Board sells. The suggestion is an odd one. First, this chair is so study you could beat it with a baseball bat and it would not break or even wobble. And second, you could probaly find something else cheaper at South Core but it would be an entirely different aesthetic. They have nothing even remotely as simple and well designed as this chair. I would also like to note that the Afton comes in leather as well. And it is lovely with or with out.

I found this chair online, went to the store in Los Angeles and before we committed we went to shop for similar items. We found a similar chair made by South Cone that is way nicer and the price was close. The chair was more sturdy and simply better built in walnut. Oh, leather seat too!

Room and board makes a nice product but if you shop around, you will find better quality elsewhere.

The chairs are well built and appear durable. They come with felt pads on the feet, which helps on wood floors. I still have not gotten used to the different shape compared to our old dining chairs, which had an upright seat back. These chairs have a seat back that reclines at a slight angle and you have to sit in the seat all the way back in order to have your entire back against the seat back (hope that makes sense). Anyway, this is a matter of personal preference, it doesn't take away from the quality of the chairs.

Service and delivery comments:

All chairs were unpacked and brought inside by the delivery guys, it was nice not to have to deal with packing materials. One of the chairs had a big scratch on the back, the delivery guys noticed and arranged right away for an exchange. I received a call within a day about when the next delivery would occur. It came in about 2 weeks and we exchanged the chair. Their truck broke down on the way and they were in touch with us throughout the process to let us know when they would be there. Happy with proactive communication.
