Chadwick - Merchandise Quality Associate - Minneapolis, MN

"A lot of places just want you to get in the door and start working. At Room & Board it felt completely different—I got to know more about the company by spending time with a lot of different people including leaders and peers. It was night and day from my past experiences and I really appreciated the thoughtfulness. Even though the interview process was a bit longer than anything I had ever experienced, I really liked how well they got to know me and all along I felt like my time was really respected."

With a background in theater, both on stage and as a set designer, Chadwick was instantly intrigued when he saw Room & Board's posting for a furniture prep and staging associate role. In addition to assembling furniture and preparing it for delivery, the individual would help load products and answer any questions about the pieces when customers arrived to pick up their furniture.

"I remember thinking that this position would pull really well from my past experiences. The customer-facing part of the role seemed like a great fit with my outgoing side which is tied to my love of acting. The craftsmanship part of the role connected directly to my hands-on experience building sets. I was really excited, but I honestly didn't think I would stand a chance because I had never worked with furniture before." Chadwick quickly found out that with Room & Board's strong focus on providing great customer service, everyone during the interview process was a lot more interested in his ability to work with customers than his various past titles.

Another thing that Chadwick has discovered first-hand about Room & Board is the value placed on collaboration and teamwork. "Furniture prep and staging is exciting for me because I am getting to know so much more about our business and our vendor partners. I am really fortunate to have peers that are willing to share responsibilities and mentor me along the way."
