Delos

A family-owned rug business in northwest Georgia’s mill country finds beauty in textile heritage at home and around the world.

Delos founders Ivan and Leah both come from families with deep histories in the floor covering industry. Before meeting, they grew their careers by learning about the industry in the U.S. and travelling around the world. After starting a family in their home state of Georgia, they combined their passion for rugs with Ivan’s studies in engineering and founded Delos in 2005.

In their Georgia factory, Delos creates rugs using a combination of state-of-the-art robotic technology for speed and consistency with hand finishing by skilled, local craftspeople. "For our machine-woven rugs, we use 100% pure New Zealand wool," says Ivan. Soft enough for hand knitting, yet resilient enough to withstand years of foot traffic, this wool is well-suited to the proprietary looming process that transforms the yarn into luxurious loop and shag rugs.

For the company's Indian rugs, high-quality wools are chosen to highlight the high density of knots or hand-woven designs, with rich, intricate detail that has been the hallmark of rug-making in the region for thousands of years. Delos also works with Indian artisans who weave beautiful rugs from recycled PET, a soft yarn made from water bottles and other recycled plastics.
