Galbraith & Paul

The artists at Galbraith & Paul have a painter’s touch that brings their printed fabrics to life.

In 1986, Liz Galbraith and Ephraim Paul opened a studio specializing in lamps with handmade paper shades. In 1998, the two expanded their Philadelphia-based business to include fabric design and textile printing. Liz draws inspiration for her designs from several styles, including the bold graphics of Scandinavian textiles, the botanical silhouettes of the Arts and Crafts movement and traditional Japanese floral patterns. We enjoy collaborating with Liz and the team on patterns and hand-mixed colors you can only find at Room & Board.

The imperfection on each piece is the very thing that makes it special.

Under one roof, the Galbraith & Paul team designs their own patterns, mixes original palettes of colors and prints each item to order. Many Galbraith & Paul items are hand block-printed, which is the slowest method of printing, but it produces elegant fabrics that honor traditional techniques and require a painter’s touch. According to Ephraim, the resulting variations in color, pattern or shading show the true spirit of the work. "The imperfection on each piece is the very thing that makes it special," he says.
