Environmental & Social Responsibility
At Room & Board, we believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work.
We start at home by providing for our staff members and striving to be a great employer. We believe in holistic wellbeing—from physical to financial to emotional. We provide full benefits to staff members who work 20 hours or more per week. All staff members receive competitive salaries and have consistent schedules—providing the stability needed to build strong communities.
We feel we can make the greatest impact by supporting organizations whose values and philosophies are similar to ours. Through our Community Partnership Program we align our financial resources with our staff members' commitment to volunteerism.
Environment & Sustainability
Respect for the environment is a guiding principle for us. As a founding member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, we're proud of our commitment to sustainable furniture, transparency and improvement. We design long-lasting furniture built by American craftspeople for less environmental impact. Our stores give new life to old buildings and our central office was remodeled for LEED certification. We also contribute to CitySprouts, the Environmental Nature Center, Nature Conservancy, Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Parks & People Foundation, Teaneck Creek Conservancy and Urban Sprouts.
Stable Homes
We believe in helping people create homes they love. That's why supporting organizations that strengthen homes is so important to us. We partner with Habitat for Humanity in our communities as well as organizations that support low income and homeless youth, families, seniors and individuals with mental illness including CommonBond Communities, LA Family Housing, Nicholas House, So Others Might Eat, Urban Peak and YouthCare.
LGBTQ Equality
Equality for all is something we've believed in from the start. Room & Board has provided domestic partner benefits for more than 20 years. We publicly opposed the Minnesota marriage amendment banning same sex marriage and supported the repeal of the HB2 law in North Carolina. We give financially to social service agencies committed to the care of those affected by AIDS and HIV and we partner with LGBTQ organizations such as Ali Forney Center and Chicago House.
Art & Design
As a modern furniture retailer, we are proud to support institutions with a passion for art and design. We contribute financially and through product donations to art museums in our communities. We also partner with design programs at institutions including the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and University of Wisconsin - Stout to help usher in the next generation of designers and artists.
