A blog on modern living

Choosing bathroom lighting is an important (and sometimes overwhelming!) decision. It needs to be stylish yet practical to support all the self-care activities that happen in the bathroom. There are several options to choose from and, like in other areas of your home, we suggest layering your lighting to get the best outcome. Read on for tips on how to pick the right lighting for your space.

1. A pair of wall sconces above your vanity = a match made in heaven.

Wall sconces are mounted to the wall, usually on either side of a mirror. They’re a great choice for vanities because they provide ample light without taking up a lot of space. In addition, getting them in pairs evenly lights your face from the sides and will help to minimize harsh shadows. Bonus: They come in all shapes and styles, making it a great way to personalize your space!

2. Looking to make a statement? Opt for a pendant.

In some cases, your bathroom has enough natural light that you don’t need direct illumination from a sconce. Or as a secondary layer, you may want a dramatic pendant in the center of the room as a piece of art. Either way, pendants make a statement. They create striking shadows that will give your space a sense of drama and style.

3. Add ceiling lighting for another layer.

Flushmount and semi-flushmount ceiling lights are a great final layer to add to your bathroom lighting plan. These fixtures generate gentle ambient light, perfect for evening relaxation. In addition, they create more texture and personality than builder-grade recessed can lights.
