Room & Board is committed to working towards racial equity in meaningful and strategic ways. This February, we’re celebrating Black History Month by honoring Black Americans and their impact on this country.
As we reflect on our country’s history of racial inequality, we know there’s more work to be done. That’s why we’re taking steps to include more Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) individuals in our workforce, diversify our manufacturing partnerships and publicly support BIPOC equity and justice.
Workforce and Workplace
Room & Board values diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our business. We’re investing resources to recruit more within communities of color. We’ve partnered with Genesys Works to provide internships to students in underserved communities and plan to expand these opportunities. Room & Board is also building a relationship with BRAG, a non-profit organization that prepares and educates professionals, entrepreneurs and students of color for executive leadership in retail.
We encouraged conversations with staff members about how we can enhance our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Thanks to these conversations, Room & Board is launching an internal group that will work to foster a supportive environment where staff members can be both heard and valued.
Throughout Black History Month, we’re using our staff member communication channels to offer educational resources about Black history. We’re lifting Black voices and highlighting Black art, literature, films and food.
Supporting Black businesses builds relationships and supports local communities. In an effort to support more Black-owned or operated businesses, Room & Board’s product team is working to continue to diversify our vendor partners. We also encourage our staff members to support Black-owned businesses and vendors.
Room & Board supports the communities where we live and work through our Community Partnerships.
We are passionate about these relationships. These organizations include nonprofits that support homes and families, agencies dedicated to LGBTQIA+ equity, environmental organizations that support our commitment to sustainability and organizations committed to social justice and racial equity.
Room & Board believes everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and have equal access to opportunities. We are a supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union. Starting in 2021, we’ve committed additional funding to support nonprofit partners focused on BIPOC communities.
We’re Part of Something Bigger
Room & Board supports local non-profit organizations in the communities where we live and work, as well as national organizations doing good across the country. We focus our resources on social and environmental causes that impact us all.
