You’ll want to book a trip to Austin after touring this beautiful space! We teamed up with Chanel Dror of Camille Styles to turn her guest house into a welcoming retreat for friends, family and guests to enjoy. Read on to see photos, learn more about Chanel and book your stay!
Do you have any advice for creating a welcoming space for guests?
When it comes to hosting company, creating a space that feels clean is number one. When in doubt, the easiest way to achieve that feeling is through bright white interiors and uncluttered surfaces… and of course, the space actually being clean! After that, strong water pressure, super comfy bedding, and a luxurious candle seal the deal.
Who would be your dream house guest?
The cast of Seinfeld.
What do you love most about your career?
I’m lucky to have a job that doesn’t feel like work at all. Instead, I spend my days doing all the things I love—creating, styling, writing, collaborating—all in the company of amazing, talented, hilarious women.
Where do you go for inspiration?
Pinterest is my happy place—does that make me basic? Bursting with ideas, projects, recipes and inspiration, my “secret boards” are the place where I cook up all my master plans!
What’s your favorite thing about living in Austin?
Oh my gosh, what’s not to love?! This town is a total adult playground. From the food to the landscape to the music, Austin never ceases to offer up inspiration and fun. Our friends here are also like family, and they make Austin feel like home.
What are you currently reading?
Save your self-help books and CEO biographies, I’m a strictly fiction girl! I’m currently about halfway through Commonwealth by Ann Patchett.
How would you describe your design style?
Modern, but with a relaxed feel and lots of natural materials.
Did your guest house space present any design challenges?
The main challenge I ran into was balancing my default design tendencies with an attempt to push myself into making bold choices. At the beginning of the process, I felt inspired by colorful, modern spaces, but when it came down to pulling the trigger on design decisions, I couldn’t help but resort to my old ways—neutrals, neutrals and more neutrals! In the end, I think the space strikes a nice balance, but I can’t help but wonder what the bathroom could have looked like with a colored tile, or how the kitchen cabinets might have turned out if we’d painted them pink!
What three things won’t we find you without?
My 12-year old Pomeranian (yes, I’m that person), a song stuck in my head, and about a million Chapsticks in my handbag.
Describe your perfect Saturday.
Wake up at 9:30am. Slowly make coffee and breakfast with my husband with music blaring and the door open. Spend the afternoon working on the yard. Go out for dinner and drinks with friends. Done and done.
