Beautiful table. 72 inch, pairs well with walnut Soren chairs. Always a challenge to find items that work well with our dark floors, but this table and chair combo have done a wonderful job. Also have the Kenwood 84 inch storage cabinet in the same room and it all flows well.

This table is so pretty in person! Our first Chilton dining table was walnut, but it arrived damaged. We lived with it for a month before Room and Board replaced it. I decided on the sugarberry for the replacement and I'm so glad I did! Yes, walnut is beautiful, but the sugar berry is so unique and really brightens up our room. "Spalted" in wood means fungus, which creates the dark striping that looks so neat. You can't tell from the photos, but some areas of the wood had holes in it that are filled with a hard clear/amber colored resin to make a smooth surface, which is also a unique element of the table. This table (72") comfortably fits 6 chairs. I am able to seat 8 by adding 2 chairs when needed, which is a little snug, but works. We have the walnut Pike chairs with the table.

We fell in love with the live edge, inlayed bowties, and beautiful walnut showing sapwood, curl, knots etc. The top is truly terrific and being able to select the *exact* top is great. Now, there are some significant caveats which we are ok with, but you should know about. Our top had a noticeable twist down its length resulting in serious wobble with the bases attached. The wobble was fixed using felt pads on both bases, but this could have maybe been avoided with a steel c-channel or longer wood drying phase. Next, resin was used to fill voids (as always for this kind of slab) but our table had one or two small cracks missing the resin – oh well. For a dining table, the R&B standard oil and wax finish is stunningly minimal and easy to reapply, but the least protective finish possible – do not let hot moisture rest on the surface unless you want hazy water marks (fixable using an iron over cotton). I applied an extra coat of finish (sold by R&B) to add additional protection, but oil & wax needs to be treated with TLC. Finally, the bases themselves are just okay; welds are sloppy looking and the screw holes lack slots to allow for wood movement with humidity. Bases have good stability in one direction (pushing table side) but just average stability across (pushing table end). Oh well, they look nice and modern from a distance, and nobody will be looking at the legs with a top this stunning. We genuinely love this table despite its imperfections. #sweepstakes

I love the look of this table. It's stunning. Unfortunately, the surface is very delicate. The table scratches very easily. I don't think I've encountered a surface that is so delicate. We are extremely careful in my home and with this table always making sure we don't place cups or anything hard/hot/etc. directly on the table, but no matter what we do, any little thing can lead to a scratch. The finish also is easily affected, and I'm not quite sure what leads to imperfections in the finish. Sadly, I would not buy this table again. It's not functional. I would probably give it a lower rating...

I fell in love with this table when I saw it in the store and love it even more in my dining room. It's wonderful that you can select the exact slab of wood that you want for the table when you order. It was even more beautiful than I expected in person and gets a lot of compliments. I bought wool felt placemats to protect the finish when dining and it's been easy to clean and maintain so far. I especially liked that I could get a matching console table to complete the look along with the Gwen side chairs.

I found this table at the downtown Chicago location a year ago and couldn't keep it out of my head. When we finally pulled the trigger to buy a new dining table I searched at every online and retail store I could find and kept coming back to this table. It is stunning and like a prior reviewer said much more eloquently than me: it tells a story. We were able to fit 8 chairs at the table (it is tight but comfortable) for Thanksgiving and large family dinners. We have a separate dining room now, but it is such a work of art it would be great to have it on display in an open concept dining space. We had an issue with the top and Room and Board has been amazing to work with to resolve it. I am confident this is going to continue to make a lasting impression for years to come.

Love that you can use the selection tool on the site to pick the EXACT table top you will get. There are no surprises at all - you get exactly what you pick. Don't worry about ordering this table online without seeing it in person. The table is GORGEOUS - it's perfect and beyond my expectations. I searched high and low for an affordable and high quality live edge table and am so happy I found this. I got it in walnut. It's a nice color - not too light, not too dark. I like the lighter colored joint pieces - they add some visual interest. My particular tabletop didn't have many of them though, and I picked it to maximize a regular table shape while still having a nice live edge and minimal joints. It's just what I was looking for!

I went to R&B to buy another table but this one caught my attention. This table brings compliments galore and guests are intrigued by selecting their own wood slab. No two Chilton tables are alike and the individuality is special. The table is strong and the surface seems durable but I still do not take chances. I put trivets under serving dishes and bought heat resistant placemats. Chairs flow under well because of the leg design.

Every time I sit at this table, I wonder about its story. The scars of an arboreal lifetime are evident everywhere, from the little tunnels made by little critters, to the stains created by the spalting. Mechanically, the table feels robust and firm. The legs are simple and elegant and focus attention on the lumber. My family is totally in love with this piece of furniture. So far, the lacquered surface seems to be resisting moisture damage fairly well (we've had it more than a month and have three kids). It's also fairly easy to wipe clean.
