Counter & Bar Table Styles
Counter tables are about 34-36 inches high, bar tables are about 40-43 inches high, and kitchen tables are the standard table height of about 29 inches high. Counter tables and kitchen tables are best for kitchens, bar tables are best for lounge areas like outdoor bars or indoor bars. Keep in mind everyone seated at any table or island needs about 24 inches of width/space to be comfortable.
Whether you're sitting or standing, counter- and bar-height tables add a natural gathering space to your kitchen. Counter- and bar-height tables are an easy way to add a modern touch to your kitchen, and they're just as stylish as they are functional. Room & Board counter tables and bar tables are available in round, rectangular, and square sizes. Pedestal base, stretcher base and counter tables with storage underneath are all stocked and ready to ship.
Room & Board offers modern counter and bar tables with storage, which work especially well in small-space kitchens and dining rooms. Extra shelving is the perfect spot for kitchen utensils, and there's still enough room to tuck in one of Room & Board's modern and comfortable counter or bar stools.
Bar Table Versus Counter Table Height: What’s Right for Your Space
Regular tables are typically 29 inches high, counter tables are typically 34 to 36 inches high, and bar tables are typically 40 to 42 inches high. To match these heights, standard dining chairs are usually 18 inches high, counter stools are typically 24-26 inches high, and bar stools are typically 28-30 inches high. Counter-height tables are slightly shorter than bar-height tables, meaning they're more comfortable if you're standing around the table or want to use it as a work/kitchen surface. A bar-height table is most comfortable if you primarily plan to sit at it for dining or drinking. A counter-height table is best if you want to primarily use it as a food prep surface and sometimes dining surface.
Choosing the Right Materials for Your Counter & Bar Tables
Quartz, granite, and ceramic composite tops are all durable options that work hard to resist staining and scratching. Our sustainably sourced wood and butcherblock tops bring warmth into the kitchen and stand up to daily use but are susceptible to heat, moisture, and marks, as natural wood would be in any environment. Wood bases and metal or steel bases are stocked, with many powder-coated color options available so you can get the look you want in your counter or bar table.
We partner with artisans across the country to pair these sustainably sourced materials with excellent design so we can bring you bar and counter tables at the best value with the least environmental impact.
To clean counter and bar stools, you can use a gentle all purpose cleaner to wipe down hard surfaces, and for fabric-upholstered surfaces with stains you should use Folex®.
