Woodwind

The bookcases and drawers appear very well built. Drawers don't shut 100% flush, but that appears to be a function of our floors and not being able to get them 100% level. The delivery team did have to realign one drawer glide to make it even.

I bought this piece in addition to two additional woodwind bookcases. There is a strangely unfinished area on the underside of the top of my bookcase/file. While normally, this wouldn't bother me (even though one should expect no blemishes). Because it's on the underside of the top, I see this all the time. It is rough to the touch, almost as if it weren't properly sanded after staining. Disappointing. But I waited so long for these pieces that there is no way I intend to send it back. Still, R&B, you should talk to your quality control folks. Something this glaring shouldn't have slipped by them.

Solid construction of bookshelves

This shelf has beautiful classic lines that complement either modern or traditional design styles. The finish is beautiful (I got the cherry) and the construction rock solid. The pull out drawer with the file cabinets is a huge plus. The "rails" for the hanging folders are a bit tight, but once they are in will fit either two standard size file folders or one legal size per drawer. I highly recommend this piece--it is a great mix of shelf and file cabinet. #sweepstakes

I ordered two of the bookcase with file drawers. I expected internal hardware on the file drawers that would accommodate both legal and letter-sized files and allow them to be hung along the width of the file drawers. Instead, R&B took a cheap approach and just made notches in plywood that really only allow letter-sized rows of files to be hung side-by-side along the depth of the file drawers. See photos. This reduces file storage capacity. R&B should post photos of drawer interiors too so that customers can see what they are getting. In addition, the notches were not deep enough in one of the pieces. I reported the problem two weeks ago and still no one has contacted me to schedule the work to correct this. There were also some nicks here and there on the finish. That's been par for the course on other pieces I've gotten from R&B. I don't sweat the small stuff, but lack of function on file drawers is not small stuff.

Love this shelf/cabinet unit - as expected from Room and Board, very high quality and timeless design. Great-looking piece to put all of our files and other random stuff in to keep it out of the way. #sweepstakes

I added this woodwind piece to my existing office furniture which I purchased from Room & Board 20 years ago! The design, style and quality will last a lifetime. Thanks for keeping some great classics in your assortment. Love my beautiful cherry wood R&B office!

We purchased this unit (and a matching horizontal book case) about two years ago. I only add a review now because we are looking for a media cabinet and when reviewing comments on several R&B selections we liked, several people in their comments mentioned that the wood had a dry, dull finish and in one instance, R&B came to their home to oil the piece. This suddenly reminded us of the same issue we had with both pieces however, when we contacted R&B we were told this was normal and with age, it would develop a glow. This has still not happened and we could not recommend purchasing this product from R&B,

It's a beautiful piece with great file storage capacity.

This is just what I was looking for. I ordered it in the dark wood finish and it looks beautiful. Having files on the bottom is as functional as it gets! I also ordered a bookcase with drawers and put a console in the middle which works well!
