McCreary Modern
Employing over 1,000 people in North Carolina, McCreary Modern builds many of our customer-favorite sofas and sectionals.

In 1986, Bob & Michele McCreary founded the business with 20 employees and three customers in an old fiber mill in Newton, North Carolina. Over the next two decades, their dedication to quality accelerated their growth, and by 2007, McCreary Modern had a showroom, several plants and employed hundreds of local craftspeople. In 2008, Bob McCreary sold 30% of the company to an employee stock ownership program (ESOP), making it partially employee owned. In 2013, he solidified its future as a family-operated business by appointing his son, Robert, as CEO. Bob continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.

In 2020, McCreary Modern gained recognition for producing over 100,000 surgical masks and distributing them to first responders, hospitals and customers at no cost. Throughout 2020, McCreary Modern retained all their employees and paid them for 40-hour work weeks, including the mandated COVID-19 shutdown. Today, the company employs over 1,000 local craftspeople who build high-quality upholstered furniture, including our Metro sofa, which has hundreds of 5-star reviews.

A charter member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, McCreary Modern's list of sustainability accomplishments is long. To name a few: All their wood meets our sustainable wood sourcing policy, all their foam is CertiPUR-US®certified, and all their down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard®. McCreary Modern strives to minimize waste in their manufacturing process. All excess materials are recycled, including wood, fabric and paper.
