Originally a supplier of shoemaking materials, Moore & Giles was founded by Donald Moore in 1933 and carried on by his son-in-law and grandson. In the early ’90s, they pivoted to focus on producing leathers. What started as a small family business has grown, and today Moore & Giles is an industry leader in producing luxurious leathers for clients around the world.
Hides are cut by hand to shape the leather and maximize yield.
Moore & Giles has over 100 employees across their headquarters in Virginia and tanning facility in Italy, where they use only European hides for Room & Board leathers. Along with a mastery of tanning science, their lead tanners believe in a minimal approach to tanning, focusing on highlighting leather’s natural features. Using these principles, Moore & Giles created continuing education units that new tanners can complete for college credits.
“A core component of our work is to educate about leather’s unique properties and its rich history as a sustainable material.”

Along with using 100% solar energy at their facilities, Moore & Giles works with international organizations such as the Leather Working Group, of which they are a member, to comply with a variety of sustainability regulations. In addition, Moore & Giles’ leather meets our animal welfare policy.
